Just how many golds has this legend denied us over the years? A great sportsman, who continuosuly forced us to up our track game.
do i hear a big sigh of relief from the kenyan athletes?

Some reports say he will reconsider retirement decision.

"He broke 61 Ethiopian National Records ranging from 800 meters to the marathon, set 27 world records, and is widely considered one of the greatest distance runners in history"....wiki!!

This was one great athlete, maybe the greatest long distance runner the world has ever seen!!!!

Very good. This man was a big pest. Now if only Alex Fagason would follow suit, my sporting life will be much less stressful.

stop being short sighted...we need to improve not reduce competition. akina Bekele are still around and more will come from the Ethiopian Highlands...so the game is still on.
To me - he is a great sportsman, who took the races to another level. Kudos Mr. Haile Gebrselassie.
Although I nearly cried, in 2000. the 10000m final was a great final. best of the best. he came up on top.

Stop Press! Not so soon... says @HaileGebr on twitter
First I want to thank you for all your support and great responses. After a few days on the countryside I could take some decisions

Running is in my blood and I decided to continue competing. My announcement in New York was my first reaction after a disappointing race.

When my knee is better again I will start focussing on my next race. Thank you again for all your support!

The right decisions are sometimes so difficult to make sometimes. This reminds me of Michael Jordan and Lance Amstrong. Lo!
