My freinds car was impounded 3 months ago, driven to Pangani police and himself locked up for a whole weekend with the cops demanding 70k b4 release of car otherwise it will be sold in some far away district like Moyale. Initialy it was a stolen car but he proved ownership and since its been under investigation. We are told there is a cartel doing this dirty job. Some help please. Who is the next victim?

that's strange and weird! there must be more hidden details to your story which you are afraid of divulging. i don't buy the notion that armed with the documentary evidence the police will continue holding a vehicle of an innocent victim for 3 effing months! i had my car stolen and after it was recovered, the police called me,explained how the operation was conducted and risks involved and were actually happy to return the vehicle to me. that's when i realized not all police are animals as the story goes. i produced the receipts, log book etc and then had an officer take me to Milimani the former CID hqs where the car was photographed for their own records. maybe 'your friend' should take his complaints to vigilance house. there's a new boss in town so he may get some assistance. alternatively seek legal advice!

@ survivor,
You know its funny that you should bring this up....in 2006 some flying squad detectives stopped me while going about my business.Reason.Casual look at the car's engine and chassis number. That was around lunchtime. One hour later they called me and asked for the car for further investigations. Afraid of their motives I asked for more time, but this was meet with fury and threats.Long story short,I managed to get a hold of my lawyer who in turn called a senior CID officer after a dramatic chase that ended at Kilimani P.station. I got off the hook. Later is when I heard of a syndicate involving some at the flying squad,KRA officers which nets cars under the pretense of duty exemption or wrongful registration only to auction them to themselves thereafter. Ohh forgot, they did say that my car had been registered as a pick up.

Police brutality never ceases to amaze me. Last year my friend and his buddies were driving to town on jogoo road @ 11pm when cops stopped them and hijacked them. They were all bundled to the back seat as the cops took charge and drove around while robbing them of their valuables and cash. My guy ended up with a nasty bruise on his forehead when one cop hit him with the gun's butt for resisting their demands. However, the cops eventually drove to industrial area and abandoned the car with the guys still in it. They drove home but the following morning they decided to take action and went to makongeni police station to report. The shock of all shockers happened midway recording his statement when another cop walked in and took over from his colleague. It was one of the buggers(the one who hit him) robbing them the previous night. At the end of recording his statement, this thief cop looked straight into his eyes and asked him if he could remember the faces of the thugs. Having given all his details(names, residential add, phone no,work add etc) in the statement,he feared this cop would come after him and lied that he could not remember. Who will save us from our police?

Feel the fear but do it anyway.
It's amazing what you can achieve when you get rid of fear.
