If the phone is gps enabled it will be easier. If you are depending on network service provider it will be a bit difficult unless it's a criminal investigation under which it's the authority to follow up on your behalf.

This sounds interesting, ITechpreneurs an opportunity to create an application that will completely remove the lying culture of the mobile phone users..........

"i'm there in ten minutes" that time a guy is an hour drive away ....or "i'm in town" when a guy is in Kajiado...etc
Trace using the base station locator near the phone....this can be huge......

Eddy.
With the network, you will only be able to locate people by the 'cell' which is about a mile radius.
With people lying about time, it depends on the mode of transport as i can be in msa in an hour.

While on this topic how does one get the cell phone numbers and names of owners of the numbers?

Kind of like a directory of cell(mobile) phone numbers in Kenya. Is this list readily available?

@whynow: that is pure nonsense, you can't intercept sms or voice without cloning the person's SIM and some very sophisticated GSM hardware, especially if radio is using any form of CDMA / W-CDMA (coded division multiple access). In addition, all SIMs have a private encryption key which along with the PIN is used to 'register/authenticate' the SIM on the network when you switch the phone on.

I have seen that but the application only works in indian calls. It's downloadable to the phone and can even be used to hide numbers if u send a text.

To use this techonology,

1. The phone must be a smartphone as in the OS ni akina symbian, windows mobile , android (am safe with my mulika mwizi)

2. You must have had prior access to the target phone.

@Ahero, why complicate instead of simplicate ?

Very very simple: Get a different person to lure him into a meeting. When he avails himself...shika kama kuku wa kuchinjwa!

is it also possible to know a number that annoyingly flushes/beeps me within a hidden identity? this is harassment and I need to nail whoever it is.

@kenyamilele,

Mbalatya is right. Mpesa will give you at least two names.
There is a Directory service run by Safaricom (191) but this is for businesses who've registered their numbers.

I think the kind of list you're speaking of would constitute breach of privacy for anyone who did not voluntarily submit their details.

@Mbalatya and Mozenrat

Thanks guys.

If there is a directory out there, then how is this an invasion of privacy?

Is this info already in the public domain?
