The most important thing is for your car to arrive before the deadline for the year/age comes into effect.

For Clearing I would recommend Agility Logistics, have worked with them for quite some time and have never been disappointed. Cargo is usually cleared within a week and without any stress.

You can check the registration date of the car you wish to import from Japan by entering the VIN/ chassis number on the following link:

am seeking help, i purchased a raum in japan via vsg japan, who really held my money for so long, it emerged they were actually agents, but the main company kbc japan have sent me the car documents but they didn't have the car inspected. now my agent tell me it'll cost around 100k to have it inspected(220 dollars) plus some other fees ya govt, how do i go about on the govt fees(my target is to reduce the amount payable-sounds like a fine)

wanted to import a honda fit for wifey to use for running up en down for business. seen several 2007 models on trade car view ranging from $1100 to $1400. is this too low. and how reliable are these websites selling those cars. any one who has bought from them. thanks

I hear import duty has gone up by 24% effective June 1st. Somebody confirm.

Downloaded the CRSP file and valuation file from KRA site and the changes are minimal. Not so significant as to cause worry.

You can check for cars on jpctrade.com. Through the company you can buy directly from the auctions in Japan. Their office is in Mombasa, Kenya too.

I had a bad experience of honda fit having some issues which turned out to be a "broken engine mounting". The owner is said to have searched in Nbi for the spare and couldn't get it. The same car had a replacement of gear-box mounting at around 15k! Not sure if this is common with "fits"

@stellak. Whats the commission charged by jpctrade per unit? if its based on vehicle value, what percentage? Please note when I say commision I mean bidders profit plus auction fees.

The only other costs missing to give cif price would be:

This is a basic breakdown for the fees that you will pay after you successfully win the unit from the auction:
Auction Fee - 15,000 yen
Inland Transportation - 7,000 - 30,000yen
Clearance -13,500
Jevic Inspection - 16,600
Agency Fee - 40,000 yen under 1M cars
Freight depends on size - 85,000 for sedans
95,000 for Vans and SUVs

Which means the FOB fees will be about 90,000Ksh plus the freight charges and the car price you get your CIF to Mombasa.

I intend to import a 4 X 4 from IBC Japan. Anyone knows if they are a genuine reliable company?

For IBCJapan what you see is what you get! I imported a unit in January and apart from their seemingly high prices I liked and enjoyed the whole experience.

I will clear a SUZUKI SOLIO R WAGON next week or 2wks time,my clearing agent gave me the following break down,is it correct or I run to another agent .

The agency fee looks std!
Use www.dutycalc.co.ke but everything seems normal IMHO.
