If you are considering importing from UK, have a look at AutoTrader. There are thousands of dealers you can choose from and over 300k motors on sale. When doing a search, one of the mandatory search criteria is a UK postcode, please use RM19 1QX.

If you are one of those who do not have relatives/friends in the UK to help them with the process of shipping the car, I am here to offer my services to get the car over to you.

A point to note, Importing is not for everyone!!

REFERENCES (IN KENYA) FROM PREVIOUS CUSTOMERS ARE AVAILABLE ON REQUEST

Whilst auto trader is a good source for cars, you will need to be judicious when buying from here.
Most sellers are genuine but when some deals are too good....You will find that some are either 'economical with the truth' or are out to dupe you.

"....Once the cars had a new identity, the next step was to advertise them for sale either through the Autotrader website or magazine, or on the roadside displaying 'for sale' posters with contact details"

@Oyster - apart from the process of shipping, you will need to offer more..... you will need to check out the car yourself.

For example, I went to buy a car and was suspicious... so I asked the vendor to stand next to the car so I could take a snap of him and the car.
Guess what? He refused.
Why? Your guess is as good as mine.
I walked away.

@ Mwatha....I am sure by now you know what I offer.Customers have different needs and if I didnt make it clear (purely because I was lazy),but I am sure when people make contact I will give them more details.

By the way, you are always welcome to chip in (if you feel I have missed something)....after all, we are in the same business and all looking for customers!!!

Thanks and have a good one.

Sportsline is VW Transporter's range-topper. Its one of the fastest in its class.
They're well built.... at least since 2003.

Are you looking for a people carrier ama for potatoes (van)?

@JK, that will be a people carrier want to venture into airport shuttle business if prices are reasonable, move away from the Urvans and the Hiaces into "luxury" so 9 and 7 seater for cost comparison. For the potatoes the Hilux is still the king in Kenya.

@Oyster - I did not mean to challenge you... it's just that many people put too much 'trust/faith' in Auto-trader.
I've even heard it talked about on some radio station (Kenyan).... yet no one ever advises caution.
I am with you in this.
In the meantime, lets find Eddy a car.

@Eddy - Prices vary
2004 manual higher mileage may be picked up at below £7k... all the way to a 2007 model probably Tiptronic Auto with all trimming setting you back just shy of £25,000 purchase price

Take a look at these examples
here... http://www.motobex.co.uk/recent-results-1
and open "2004-7 VW Transporter TDi" pdf

Let me know if you have difficulty viewing it.

Assume £7000 puchase price... it may cost £8500 (ksh 1m)CIF Mombasa depending on what needs to be done. you don't want a shuttle bus with near worn tires etc.'
What's the price of a good new tyre - 16"? ksh 15k may be?
In some cases its better to pay more on purchase price and find you do not need to do anything apart from inspection/delivery.
Duty for a 2004 (should be Ksh635k but if done later next year will be 475k)
So ksh1.7m should cover.
Low mileage - ksh 2m+.

High mileage ....100- 120k mls some even 200k
Low mileage 30k mls
Many are used as executive shuttle or airport transfers or hire so are designed to cope high mileage. As long as the timing belt is changed as required.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes most are 9 seater otherwise some are 7/8 seater where space has been created in the middle.

@Mzee safari...You are looking at total cost of APPROX Ksh 1 - 1.2m (depending on factors such as mileage, month of reg, manual vs auto etc)

Duty alone on a 2004 (manual) model this year will set you back Ksh493k +...... next year you could pay 369k
Auto model could cost approx 30k more.

Purchase price £3000- 5000 (Ksh400-630k)depending on condition mileage etc
(@Oyster suggests AutoTrader above)

Shipping/insp/delivery to port £1100-1200
Cost/admin. 10% +/- depending on who sources.

...therefore CIF Mombasa Ksh560k- 850k.

E&OE... so don't sue me.
