I am a chap who has been living and working outside Kenya for a while. I am headed back to Kenya and I am lookinng to invest roughly KShs 3m and I am targetting to be getting reasonable cashflows on at least a monthly basis to be able to sustain myself

My current ideas are:

1)Actross tipper to take advantage of booming real estate business. At 40 tonnes capacity I am told I can ferry as much as 90 tonnes of construction material a day @ KShs 800 p/t. Not sure how current/ correct my facts are. Anyone in the know please advice.

2) Importing stuff from China- Told things like diapers, real estate material eg ceiling boards, electrical material etc.

3) Buying and sub-dividing land- My least attractive option due to the liquidity constraints.

If anyone has any infor on the above on:
- expected return on Investment
-Viability, pitfalls, other factors to consider
-Any other viable biz ideas

I will be much obliged.

what field have you been working in? Come employ yourself in that field, you might also employ 5 or so hardworking kenyans...

Why not invest in stocks? With a reasonable portfolio you are bound to double your cash by next year.

Sparkly: Thx for the suggestion. I will consider it.

Sizzla: Thx as well. I have been quite active in the NSE even being away but fear that I have not had a winning streak. Having had a catastrophic prsonal track record I contracted two private money managers who seemed to have their ear to the ground. One was just as dismall as I was and the other has done quite well posting returns of roughly 30% so far annualised.

Perhaps you could recomend a money manager or analyst who can help me pick a portfolio that can give 100% ROI annualised?

We are the land of the pyramids. Pick any and you are ok. Try DECI if you can resurrect it. Good luck.

You have some good ideas to start, my two cents. Once in Kenya do some feasibility studies on your ideas, plus the other numerous ones you will get and then go from there. Pitfalls to watch for, there are too many so called 'experts' on all kind of stuff on how you can make money.
