Hello my fellow investors. Any ideas when Uchumi will be back? Some of us are way to anxious...

Uchumi will be subjected to the same measures as an IPO for it to return to the bourse. That means, it must make a profit consistenctly for 3 yrs (Someone correct me if am wrong on the 3 yrs). So far, they have done slightly over two yrs. So, expect them back after they announce their end yr financial results.

By the way, Uchumi is out of liquidation but am not sure they cleared their loans from KCB and PTA banks.

Give Uchumi another two yrs before they pay a dividend.

A sinking company has to re-capitalize to initial capital if things turn north before paying out a dividend.

I usually see Uchumi shares with nostalgia cauze a picked over 40,000 rights shares at 10 bob and within two weeks sold at 15 bob. I was in the meeting at Mayfair where Murigu was addressing Uchumi suppliers convincing them to take up the rights they had been offered using the credit owed to them by Uchumi.

"Yuo take up the rights which you don't pay for, sell within weeks, and bolt. You fail to pick the rights, Uchumi goes under, you go home empti handed".

As an old dog at the bourse, I took the opportunity and made a killing, then flew to Shocking Asia.

why wait for Uchumi to show profits for 3 years? Let people make their own decisions...

These are not new shares but the old ones...

Thanks for the insightful post. So we wait about 3 yrs then longer for any dividends. Hmm...
Is there another company that has bounced back the way Uchumi has in this economy? That says alot about their fundamentals being very solid don't you think so sir?

Guys

I think the first thing we should do as shareholders is:-
1) Thanks God for his mercy, when he ruled that Uchumi would not collapse.
2)Thank the Kibaki Government for stopping the liquidation that was tailor made to offer the company for sale to South Africans for a song.
3)Thank Jonathan Ciano, his management team and the entire staff of uchumi for their hard work in bringing uchumi to where it is today from where it was in 2006.
4) Thank all the suppliers for continuing to supply to the shop.
5)Many thanks to all the die-hard uchumi customers who continue to shop and thus bring the shop up to where we are now.

If we have waited for 4 good years from 1 June 2006 to today or end of June 2010, we can wait for the team to work out listing agreements.

Congratulations to the team and lets hold and hope this will be sooner rather than later.

@Mashant

Uchumi has already reported profits for the last two or more yrs already. They have less than one yr to go.

On returning to the market, don't rush to sell the shares simply cauze U've held them for long. Wait till they discover their right price then consider selling based on fundamentals.

African GreatLakes, OTC, Lonrhow (Spell), etc were delisted and never came back.

Am not aware of any company which made it back to the NSE after being placed undr liquidation.

It still pains me today that Uchumi shareholders did nto read the Pricewaterhouse report in the Uchumi Financial Report prior to its closedown. The most important sentence in a Financial Report is where the Auditors state whether the company is a going concern or not. In the Uchumi case, they had stated that Uchumi was not a going concern. That is when everyone should have bailed out of the sinking ship and lynch one character called SeeKay.

Well, they have reported their audited results for the final 3rd year (see today's standard, page 11). They have reported a profit per share of 4.81kshs! Plus, they also appear to have moved into positive reserves (638 million kshs worth).
I dont see any further hindrances to them relisting, now. They should do this by the end of the year. A good price appreciation should be in order
