Yes but it will take time. Initially JFK will lead to higher operating costs i.e. loss making route until breakeven/ scale down if passengers numbers does not pick up.

This route is also dependent on other new routes.

However, under Mikosz leadership you can see highlights that can shift the tide to propel the KQ flight to a safe landing in the black (profit zone)e.g. cheaper and easy available parts and maintenance contract with Boeing, new menu, new routes, new codeshare agreements, savings if the engineers are finally shown the door and many more which could not have been possible under Ngunze.

@maka, can you confirm that the suspended engineers will be finally terminated after the recent court of appeal ruling?

Oops Captains having issues... A letter doing rounds where they are complaining how KLM gets the most of the top management positions at the airline yet there are many experienced Kenyans who have worked for years.... They have listed profitable routes (one of them being Mumbai) that were sabotaged by some guy called Marko seconded to KQ by KLM...

Well, after what Naikuni, Mbugua, Kiboi, Kinyanjui, etc did at KQ then why would KLM trust "experienced" Kenyans?
I would not be surprised if many of the suppliers were in cahoots with the senior staff.

Is this the guy who was in charge of the network?

I remember the Mumbai Flight timing was changed when this guy took over. New Delhi also terminated at the same time then KLM took over the slot left by KQ.

It is very true KLM is controlling KQ to their own advantage and that of the other foreign carriers.

I hope Mikosz address this issues or else it will still be hard for KQ to turn a profit.

It is true there are people in KQ who knows very well the genesis of the issues / detrimental interventions that have been done by KLM people who doesn’t necessarily understand Africa. They behave as if they know everything.

In aviation, if you are smart enough then there are some decisions which you can see the positive/ negative effects through analysis of the performance e.g. passengers numbers.

Remember the guy who leaked out the McKinsey payouts. This was a smart person, actually smarter than Ngunze and Alex. It was obvious to him that the payouts being made does not match the benefits being realised.

Unless all these underlying issues are addressed by Mikosz then KQ is likely to slide deep into negative equity and this is the worry that among the pilots who are very smart.

You remember we were even able to point out bad decisions executed by Ngunze? What about the pilots who have inside information about KQ? They talk to people in the commercial department who are aware of these missteps. They can easily see the reason why Ethiopian is now able to upload more passengers than KQ in some key routes compared to 2007. Actually this information is leaked by Commercial to the pilots since they are vocal enough.

You remember Gichinga in the press conference highlighting issues in repatriation of funds which were later picked up by the forensic audit.

These KLM guys should just go.I hope the Commercial position does not go to anyone from KLM.

The chairmen of the two airlines met last year and the opting out of add funding by KLM under the restructuring tells us a story. Remember Peter Elbers stepping down from the KQ board in 2016. MJ talks about this relationship in his interview with CNBC posted here
