I don't drive a Subaru, but parts are more expensive than say Toyota, but they last longer - as you said expensive is relative. Service outlets are numerous.I know PAC, Lota are Subaru specialists. Someone I know says that if Sukhi @ PAC can't fix your Subaru, no one can :)

as tuvok said,,parts are indeed MORE expensive than say toyotas (oil filter 800, air filter 1500..etc), but thats for original stuff. You can get counterfeit spares for cheap but that wud b killing ua car.Yeah more expensive but longer lasting.
Servicing depends entirely on what u are replacing. I knw a place for subs in inda SUBATECH,,1500 for labour only.

dont listen to Toyota Fanatics too much. Buy a car that your Heart wants and you will be a happier person. The fuel consumption on Japanese cars of the same year and engine capacity less turbo ofcourse is pretty much the same. The only good thing about a toyota is resale value so you will have to make a choice between resale value and a serious machine....if you buy original toyota parts then they will cost more or less the same as the subaru ones. If you go to river road then you will get very cheap parts which dont last anyway...subaru parts are original hence the reason why they last longer...

thanks guys,i'm not buyn a car to re-sell so i care less about resale value. what was worrying me most was fuel consumption and servicing of the car. my mind is now made up, impreza here i come.

any advice on which is beta....saloon or wagon? pros & cons maybe, i'd really appreciate.

I'd go for the wagon, simple coz you can carry more in the boot :) But the saloon looks much better for me,

@ekmugo - not a toyota fanatic myself - just that when buying my car i had a similar dilemna.

Parts are the same for most jap cars if you buy original - which i do for a toyota.

@theslim

Yes crazy jams (Think MSA road)
I only do fast take offs when I have to, but try not to be aggressive.
It's an auto, -> no manual option for this particular car. Manual should give u better.
Aircon never.

But yes there are factors.

Anyway, I hope @kinyash umepata ideas.

Imprezza is a great car, performance wonderful and is very stable on the road. anyone interested in a 2000 model - KAU can get in touch. The car is in a very good condition. Ksh.450,000

@theking and Kinyash,

have a look at www.autotrader.co.uk and if you see any Impreza of interest, let me know and can help you get it to Kenya. See my services in one of my post http://wazua.co.ke/forum.aspx?g=posts&t=6135

@OYSTER....problem is that I'm raising part of the purchase price then getting financing for the balance. so the autotrader.co.uk option might be ruled out. i need to but one from here in Kenya. i know some1 who can import me one from Japan at his own cost then i get it from him. i don't think u can do that

As some American subaru guru once said about subarus and all cars in general if you are not servicing your car well you are cheating yourself at the pump.

This cars need to be well taken care of. They need regular oil, sparks and air element changes otherwise you consumption shoots thru the roof!
