I was wondering the same. I guess investor have become more cautious. I had expected BBK to be at around 58/- before today's announcement. But look at it. I'm waiting to see what happens tomorrow as I'm sure most will hold.

BBI will solve it

i'm thinking theres nothing up with the share but more like there is something up with the market..
its just all this political ruckus and the constitution biz thats making investors a little weary...
shares like cables, mumias and a few others usually take the most heat.. but i doubt its permanent

@wondergirl - Are you a shareholder of EA Cables?
If you think it is cheap at the current price... buy more (if u have the cash)...

Otherwise, why expect someone to pay more for the shares when you are not confident of EA Cables' performance?

Undervalued because of unique operational challenges in 2009- high commodity prices and manufacturing plant upgrades. Expect modest results for 2009. Company has a long history of profitability and dividend payment. Buy more if you can. Future is bright.

@Very Things Many Things, I love this share! I'm confident in its kind of business, just that it seemd abit odd for it to be going down.
@ Sparkly, nitaonngeza. thank you.

@wondergirl - The lower prices of copper & aluminum should benefit EA Cables... as does the pickup of demand from KPLC (expansion) & new housing...

@Vitu. E A Cables lost the contract for KPLC in 2009. Trans century it appears no longer have leverage in Govt, if this and the case of RV Railways is indicative

So who's providing the cables to KPLC as I know KPLC policy gives 1st priority to local suppliers?

@gathinga @2012
I think EA Cables may get a 2nd chance from KPLC since KPLC is embarking on new projects (see KPLC Annual Report) in 2010 & 2011.

There is a new firm called KETRACO as well which belongs to GoK. They plan to build huge transmission lines from Ethiopia to Nairobi!

Do you know if they were part of providing fibre optic cables?

@2012.KPLC were getting stuff from some company called metsec, besides direct imports. Most of the cables laid in 2009 were subcontracted and not laid by KPLC themselves. Contractors had no limitation where to buy. Its cheaper to import from South Asia, than from EA cables!!. @Vitu. If KETRACO gives some of their humongous cables orders to EA Cables, then this may help push up EA cables local sales.

I don't know but EA Cables owns a firm called Nexans (or at least distributes fibre-optic cables made by Nexans) in Tanzania...

KETRACO was set-up as a TRANSMISSION firm... Then they are supposed to let KPLC distribute...

Did the setting up of this company lead to reduced costs for KPLC in any way??

KETRACO was set-up last year... I do not think it has built any infrastructure yet...

@VVS... how does lower (as opposed higher) prices for aluminium n copper benefit EA Cables... wouldn't that result in a drop of revenue n possibly even profits (in absolute terms)?

Depends on their contracts but EA Cables is NOT a 'producer' of copper or aluminum... thus it has to pass on cost of raw materials...

More buyers if the price is lower...
