Greetings all,

The Emerging Markets Investments Club - TEMIC is hosting the first ever, comprehensive, Entrepreneurship and Investment Skills Development Seminar, at the Jambo Conference Centre, Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi from Wednesday, 24th to Friday, 26th of March, 2010.

The key note speakers include, Mr. Chris Kirubi (Leading Industrialist), Mr. Fred Mweni (Top Investment Advisor, 2008, Tsavo Securities Limited), Mr. Eric Migwi (African Asset Management Limited), Dr. Kabare Karanja (Deputy Director, JKUAT), Prof. Juma Anthony Wagoki (JKUAT, Marketing), Dr. Muthumbi Waweru (Environmentalist, NEMA-based EIA Specialist), Mr. Rikki Agudah (leading IPM Agronomist), Mr. Peter Ndungu (Kenya Institue of Administration and Kenya Institute of Management) and many other leading personalities in various fields, including banking & finance, energy, tourism business, ICT Information/Telecommunication, Trade & Industry and the Informal Sector. There will also be widespread government representation and media coverage of this event.

The theme of the seminar is 'THE HEAD DETERMINES WHAT THE HANDS END UP WITH'.

Objectives of the Seminar

The main objective of this particular seminar is to enhance the delegates' capacity to confront challenges facing business enterprise start-up and sustainability, as well as the delegates' capacity to pursue investment opportunities present in this emerging economy, whether individually or as an investment club.

The delegates shall mainly discuss five (5) core subjects,

- Enterprise Development and Management,
- Business Planning and sustainability,
- Accessing and Managing Venture Capital / Private Equity,
- Collective Investment Schemes and,
- Investment Groups.

This three (3) day event will highlight the investment opportunities in this region and will introduce the delegates to practical approaches in pursuing and taking advantage of the investment opportunities present in this emerging economy.

Enterprise Development and Management

Numerous investment opportunities exist in Kenya. The seminar will endeavor to highlight these opportunities which exist in the following sectors/sub-sectors of the economy:-

Banking and Finance,
Energy,
Building & Construction,
Infrastructure,
Environment & Natural Resources,
Information & Communication ICT,
Manufacturing,
Tourism Business, and
Agriculture

Presentations will be made by entrepreneurs and investors who are authorities in these sectors. There shall also be key personalities from various government bodies related to the administration of these sectors. Delegates will be able to interact directly with these government officials, entrepreneurs and investors and ask them questions.

Delegates will be trained on the legal procedures of starting a business in Kenya. These steps / guidelines will need to be clearly understood, so that delegates are able to start their own businesses to pursue the investment opportunities presented to them.

Preparing a business plan will give you an insight into the planning process. It is this process itself that is important to the long-term health of a business, and not simply the plan that comes out of it.

Businesses are dynamic and the understanding and knowledge created by the process of business planning will prepare the business for any changes that it may face, and so enable it to adjust quickly.

Despite these many valuable benefits, thousands of would-be entrepreneurs still attempt to start without a business plan and invariably fail. Be sure to have a business plan!

Delegates will be trained on why a business plan is such an important tool in any enterprise venture and will receive information that will assist them to structure a comprehensive business plan. This will be the main part of the seminar and it will have two levels, namely:

A. LEVEL 1 - Initial Business Planning for start-up entities (basic business plan), and

B. LEVEL 2 - Detailed Business Planning for on-going entities (advanced business plan),

Delegates shall discuss various parts of a Business Plan based on these two levels. Outcome - Delegates shall write a Basic Business Plan for a business of their choice.

The promoter of this event is the Managing Director of Amboseli Construction Company Limited, which is currently developing a residential estate in Nairobi, to tackle the housing deficit.

He is desirious about eradicating poverty in Kenya through practical empowerment to create wealth.

Tell a friend and be there, you will learn something or meet somebody! Join TEMIC on facebook and receive weekly updates about the seminar.

Is the real estate development the first one for Amboseli or has he done other successful ones before? What I mean to say is why promote an investment event if you don't have something to show for it?

Dear Friends,

Greetings.

I think we are all of the same cause but with varied approaches. Now, while some of us have a phobia for the unknown, others have a thing for going after the unknown and others..., well I dont know about those ones. Personally, I know I have a big thing for going after the unknown, the untested, the unexploited and the undiscovered.

I don't know about you, but that just about sums it up, about me. I like how Forest Gump's mother put it, in one of the hit movies of the 90's - Forest Gump. She said that, Life is like a box of choclates, you never which one you gonna pick! How so true.

Now, TEMIC Ventures recently got into a long term strategic partnership with Knowing Technology Systems. We felt that our visions compliment each other and that we should see what kind of synergy we can create and develop.

We are aware that many of our friends here, have varied questions about this seminar and / or about TEMIC, in regards to who we are, what we are about, where you can find us, why we are hosting this seminar, why we believe it is important, etc, etc and many other good questions. We welcome this very much, as long as it is in good spirit.

In order to address any concerns, we are going to be online daily and you will be able to engage us in positive discussion coupled with constructive criticism.

We have upgraded from facebook.com where we first started and are now online at www.temic.co.ke. You can drop us a line at info@temic.co.ke or blog us at http://www.temic.co.ke/index.php?q=blog or call our westlands office tel: +254-020-3673369.

I believe that responsibility is the root of rights to resources. It is the route toward those rights, the reserve of those rights and the reason for those rights. It is impossible to talk about human rights apart from human responsibilities. It is deceitful to advance human rights before propagating human responsibilities for harnessing human resources.

And finally, with great minds, comes great responsibilities.

I look forward to hearing from you.

@TEMIC, I see the big day is next week. Took some time to go through the interview. Some questions perhaps:
--Are the guys presenting at your conference speakers or all your members/directors?
--TEMIC started as online discussion forum, where? Any examples of similar ventures I can relate to?
--And lastly, I'm a sucker for success stories, any examples from the movement, pray tell?

@Muganda,

Thanks for taking your time to go through our website and watching the interview online. To answer you, some of the speakers are our members/directors, e.g. Dr. Kabare Karanja (JKUAT) and Mr. Fred Mweni (Tsavo Securities). Others have been drawn from various economic sectors. TEMIC started on Facebook and I dont know of other such ventures which have come out of this social networking platform, but I bet there are. As for success stories, presentations will be made by successful entrepreneurs in their respective sectors, you may catch these at the conference. Yes, the big day is next week and we have a feature story set to run tomorrow in the Standard. To register visit our website and one of our staff members will call you to confirm your registration. Regards, TEMIC
