Did you catch this... very informative. A reformed sex worker on air in the morning appealing to other pros to change their way of life.

She said she got into the business because she was an orphan and her elder sister was making good money. Claims to have made as much as 20,000/= for a simple bjob. But came to realise she was selling her dignity - abuse etc.

Two lessons:
- many times people come to sex workers just to talk, for reassurance on life, other issues
- do not always be quick to judge

@Muganda

I got a different message. She wants the oldest profession decriminalised. She did not condemn it but she said some sex workers actually find love in their course of duty.

Aiiish @FundamentAli, kwani my radio was tuned to a different station. I thought she works for a kind of NGO that helps reform sexual workers?

But you bring a valid point. When it comes to prostitution and abortion, it's always a bit tricky. Woman is a criminal but there's always a man linked to it who is very clean.

@Muganda

You must have tuned your radio a bit late. You only heard a quarter of the story

But what I hate is when you tell a commercail sex worker that yoyu're not interested then she starts going on about how she is a woman like any other, what's wrong with her and other self-esteem issues and S$%%.

Sex is a hard product to sell because of all the emotional feelings that go with it.

But almost every man buys sex at one time or the other. And almost everyone woman sells.

Just happens that most of us call the transaction 'Marriage.' But take out sex and most marriages cease - legally, religiously, socially and yes, commercially.

You have a non commercial day now, won't you?

I dint listen to the program but prostitution will always be with us becoz of:
-quick cash.
-sex with no strings attached appeal to majority of men
-women involved pretend to detach the emotional aspect of sex forgeting that every sexual experience take a bit of their emotion.
-Most of these commercial sex workers suffer from depression caused by self loathing and the only way they can cope is by continuing with this trade.

@ muganda I didn't catch the session, but how come no male prostitute ever comes out like this in the media? I mean the media does every now and then come up with a story of an organisation ran by ex-prostitutes (female) but never one by jamaas yet they exist...remember the beach boys/men?

@Intelligentsia, women causes are always championed better in Africa. Either men by character are non-communicative or women have been oppressed for too long and have found a voice...

Do I recall a 'Maendeleo ya Wanaume...' founded in Kenya - whatever came of that?
