Source it yourself from UK, as it will be cheaper, visit www.autotrader.co.uk, there are a number of dealers on this leading site. You will however need a postcode in order to do a search, use RM19 1QX.

If you find something, I can help you get it to Kenya by arranging for JEVIC inspection, delivery to port and posting all export documents (BoL, Log book, inspection certificate and all other documents that comes with the car depending on your agreement with the dealer/seller you have bought it from).

If required, I will go view the car on your behalf before you buy it. I can then advice you whether it is worth buying or not.

The costs of my services start from £300 per car depending on how far I have to travel to get the car.

@Oyster,
If i am sourcing a car from UK,why would i need a Japanese inspection certificate?
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.

@Njunge..It is a regulatory requirement that all imports (not just Japanese) be inspected for road worthiness.The vehicle must meet Kenya Bureau of Standards KS 1515:2000 – Code of Practice for Inspection of Road Vehicles.

See link:http://jevic.co.jp/en/activities/regulatory-inspections/kenya/Documents/RWI_Inspection_Criteria_uk.pdf

It so happens that Japan Export Vehicle Inspection Centre (JEVIC) is the appointed body. It does inspections for all vehicles.

Further information also available on KRA website.

@ Oyster
You say its cheaper - please give provisional figures ie CIF cost andf any other detail you consider helpful.
Base this on 8 year old VX.

Its all subject to how much you buy/source the vehicle for, so I cannnot give you vehicle price on here, you have to conduct a search and do the math from there. However, I can give you the costs involved which contributes to overal CIF price.

JEVIC INSPECTION:Will cost between £125-£148
SHIPPING: RoRo (Roll on Roll off) Approx £800 for 42 day sailing via Dubai and approx £900 for 21 day direct sailing to Mombasa. Containerised shipping is also available but will cost you more, £1,450 for 20ft.

My advice is to use 21 day sailing (RoRo), I have used it for years, no problems at all. Many think that if their cars are not in a container, they will be scratched but I haven't experieced this.

Additional info: if the 1st date of registration falls between Jan - April, using the CRSP figure provided on KRA website of KES 11,957,000, the duty would be approximately KES 1,265,793.Please note that this is a guideline figure and is subject to change depending on date of first registration.

I hope above is satisfactory but if your require any further information, please do get back to me. Alternatively, call me on Mob: +447983556472 or Office: +442082575215.

@Ngalaka. for 8 yr old car (well definitely 2003 model) you should be looking at £12-16k purchase price (approx. ksh 1.4-1.9m)
Then additional costs as Oyster has indicated (shipping/fees/inspection).
but the figures depend on condition esp. mileage. as most other conditions of vehicle are bound to be good.

What are you considering? 4.2TD (diesel) or 4.7L petrol V8?
the VX is also known as Amazon in Europe.

If you plan to spend that kind of money on a Vehicle you can afford a container as opposed to RoRo.

@oyster - I have known of issues where high value vehicles (RoRo) being shipped the longer route ie Middle East to be tampered with.
Sources have informed me this happens when ships dock in Oman on trasit to Mombasa. Any truth?
This is the reason I say containerise high value vehicles.

@Oyster &JkMwatha

Thanks guys for info.
I am in a better position to make a decision going forward.
Diesel version is what I would be leaning towards.
For now I am haggling over which way to go.

Hats off.
