Guys I'm going nuts, thanks to my modem. I'm trying too hard to finish my thesis but , to no avail.
My woes started when i realized that i cannot afford safaricom so i sold off the modem to acquire an orange one.

Now I'm persistently getting errors (especially error 678-cannot connect to the remote station), and my internet keeps getting disconnected every 5 minutes.

I brought the laptop to the ICT guys at work , who advised me to install an anti virus and i gladly installed kaspersky.
the problem persists.

ICT guys on the forum...any ideas..am traumatized beyond measure. I cannot afford another 90K if my thesis doesn't go through before June...please help.

Had the same problem too initially...
i think its a problem to do with its installation or 2. the network strengh in ur area..

so try reinstalling the thing...and make sure you follow all instructions.. including disabling your antivirus at a point...

go to my network places>view network connections
check whether there is a connection called "Z-connect"
if its there, its the cause of your troubles, its actually a virus.
There are two ways that i know of dealing with it
1. right click z-connect, select properties, set the phone number to *99# and save. From now you will be using it to connect instead of clicking connect on the modem dashboard

2. install avira antivirus and update it. (first uninstall all previous antivirus. Avira will be able to detect the z-connect virus as it tries to access your internet connection when you click connect on the modem dashboard software. You will simply select 'deny access' when its detected and your connection wont disconnect. The virus will also be quarantined.

All the best
