New U.S. oil and gas well November permits tumble nearly 40 percent

Quote:

Plunging oil prices sparked a drop of almost 40 percent in new well permits issued across the United States in November, in a sudden pause in the growth of the U.S. shale oil and gas boom that started around 2007.

Data provided exclusively to Reuters on Tuesday by industry data firm Drilling Info Inc showed 4,520 new well permits were approved last month, down from 7,227 in October.

The pullback was a "very quick response" to U.S. crude prices, which settled on Tuesday at $66.88 CLc1, said Allen Gilmer, chief executive officer of Drilling Info.

Finally some good news. Thank you. Wonder if sasa the Chinese accent will become a thing to copy like the way every Kenyan seems to try their best to talk in an American accent, expcially the rich Kenyans.

I wouldnt say its good news, its a win for the Chinese government, but thats about it. The average Chinese citizen does not benefit from this coz the wealth gap is still quite huge in China. And the average American will not be affected by this in the near term coz an American is still better off than a Chinese. Lets not forget, something as simple as Facebook is still banned in China! Plus there are virtually no Americans living illegally in China, while there are alot of Chinese doing the same in the US. So this is just paper victory

Russia Defends Ruble With Biggest Rate Rise Since 1998

Russia CB hikes rate by 650bps to 17% to stem the ruble crazy slide. Super hike like Ndungu in 2011 when KES was melting down.

Packing deposits in the weak oil nations will pay handsomely as CBs hike rates like mad men to stem their ccys from a meltdown. I'm sure a number of large funds (esp china, india and jap) have already spotted the opportunities. Russia has a low debt burden, oil and gas and now a 17% funding rate return. Fantastic! Well unless the ruble collapse another 20% from here.

Oil and Ruble have been miserable losers in 2014. But the loser award goes to...

Iron ore! What a nosedive in 2014! Gina
Rinehart's fortune reduced by $2B as the ore cratered.

In Russia, Leonid Mikhelson's fortune has halved this year as the billionaire faces an oil nosedive and a ruble meltdown. Actually this is being faced by most Russian billionaires in the energy sector.

Russians Quit London Luxury Homes as Only Super-Rich Stay

Quote:
Wealthy Russian homebuyers are vanishing from London after driving a wave of foreign investment that lifted property prices to records. Only the oligarchs persist.

The number of Russians registered through Christie’s International Real Estate to buy homes in the city dropped by 70 percent in a year, said Giles Hannah, the broker’s senior vice president. That has led to a plunge in offers for properties priced at less than 10 million pounds ($16 million) as it becomes more difficult for all but the wealthiest to take money out of their home country.

This UK property market... Monkeys are coming.

As the year comes to a close which saw record IPO floats, the award for the IPO con job goes to OW Bunker. 2nd largest IPO in Denmark since 2010. 8 months after the IPO floated the firm filed for bankruptcy as oil prices jumped off the cliff! Waiting to see how long it'll take for IPOs to return in the Danish equity market after wanjikus got slaughtered by this IPO.

The IPO headline back in March 2014 - http://www.bloomberg.com...biggest-since-2010.html

I dont think a visitor is allowed to invest, you have to have a social security number, which is the equivalent of a PIN in Kenya, in order to open a brokerage account. But I think the rule is different for institutional investors, not sure though.
