Anyone who have done this before? I have unused land (4 acres) in South Nyandarua and I want to give a shot this season. What are the hurdles to expect?

I tried in my place in Siaya and it did well. Dont fear.........Go ahead and do farming.........You will not be dissapointed!

My mum says,'Lowo ok riamb',eti,Udongo haidanganyi.......To mean.......God has blessed the land,and the land will always give you back the returns. You'll never go wrong

I also own like 12 acres of land in North Nyandarua near oljor-orok.
Well,potato farming is lucrative in that area because of the good soils and climate,however make sure u dont sell the potatos to the brokers there,try and find your market,like in Nyahururu.or nakuru.

Otherwise those brokers buy at 200 bob per gunia while u can sell at 850 per gunia in Subukia market.

Good luck man

@Cardinal,

850 bob a bag....???......Current prices in Nyanza and Western range between Kshs 4000 and Kshs 6500........and there is almost no supply.

Optimum potato yield is roughly 10 tonnes per ha but in developed nations its@40tonnage...some factors causing concern to the poor yield is lack of availability of hybrid potato seed. There is an ominous shortage of potato in the country having to content with importing from Tz
