It has been in the pipeline for long. it will actually come. The issue is whether it will come when the country needs it or not. and when it comes, it will come at what price. The earliest i can see it is 2023/24

In a similar 2015 PPP deal KenGen had awarded RentCo [Lantech+Toshiba] a KES 52B geothermal deal but the loser Russian firm OJSC Power Machines [+Transcentury,Civicon] appealed resulting in cancellation of the deal...may be due to corruption allegations in the deal KenGen parked it and did not re-advertise....until now.

Kengen should release the results as unaudited. Investors in listed companes need assurance that their investments are not subject to political processes.

They retired the PIBO last month by paying the last principal payment and interest.

Which "idle cash" when there are huge loans to pay?

Also KE needs more baseload power and KenGen should reinvest funds in viable projects. These are pricey. They take a long time to come online.

If KPLC falters in making timely payments then KenGen needs cash to pay its obilgations.

Going into 2020, I have moved to cash-rich firms or low debt:equity firms.
No more ARMs. Even my sole GoK holding is KenRe with lots of cash.

Even if it was to pay special dividend now, the drought that is likely to follow will be worse than Sahara as we head to election 2022.
