Bought by those who understand risk.

Latest KNBS statistics for Generation and Consumption of Electricity October 2018:

Generation: 969.05 Gwh
Total KP Sales: 737.71 Gwh
i.e 23.87% Power losses. There has been a lot of investment in improving the power distribution by building substations to minimize these losses but they are increasing. What gives? OR is there a mismatch in generation Vs consumption?

LTWP wind is at 75.47 Gwh and all the turbines were not running by end of October 2018. This is really a game changer in Kenya's power market.

For the LTWP, i believe KPLC has a billing power meter at Turkana (buy @KES 8/kwh) but the power is transmitted to load center in Nairobi (to sell @KES 10/Kwh) some ~600Km so the transmission power losses must be huge. Is KPLC's PPAs already doomed it to making losses?

Homes and factories in Nairobi for the first time since 2013 cut their electricity consumption, signaling reduced economic activity in the capital.

Kenya Power data show electricity consumption in the city in the year to June dropped to 3.83 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) from 3.913 billion in similar period a year earlier, pulled down by large commercial users and domestic consumers.

Nairobi’s consumption of power by city’s commercial and industrial users dropped to 1.44 billion units from 1.6 billion the previous year while that of households dropped to below a billion to 779 million kWh, down from 1.119 billion—reflecting a 12.5 per cent drop.

These are cheap lies peddled by corrupt Jubilee government. I can tell you for a fact that more than 20 ugly flats with 60 single rooms each were erected in Mathare North alone leave alone Lucky summer, pipeline, Huruma, Pangani etc within the stated period. All these are connected to electricity. No amount of hekaya za abunuasi can fool me that electricity consumption went down. Jubilee should tell Kenyans kibaga ubaga where Kenya power revenues(monopoly) disappear to

This is all attributable to slump in Athi River based EAPC and ARM. Even if you connect a million customers, their consumption of electricity is dwarfed by what Cement Firms Consume in total.

Solar, aggressive disconnection of unmetered supply (slums) and deliberate saving due to hard times? Perhaps pre-paid users who went back to d.light and paraffin

In Nairobi, distribution losses are highest in households , especially slums. This slump in units consumed is not actual, its just because it wasn't metered. Losses. All large power customers are connected to smart meters with minimal possible chances of stealing electricity

The other contributing factor must be increased and prolonged blackouts due to substandard equipment and service. It's been down hill ever since Ben Chumo left.

BBI will solve it

The source and uses of KPLC are in their audited financials and acxompanying notes. New completions of construction can be used as a proxy for growth, but not fully. The units may be unoccuppied, users may be using alternatives for energy (eg solar for heating) and industrial firms may have cut back significantly on consumption.
