He contradicts himself by saying the student should master the art of design. What industrial take off is he talking about?

He isn't anti-all arts and humanities. He seems to think subjects like history are bure kabisa but arts like design are beneficial to the economy

Even the chinese while reviving the maritime silk road they remembered the history of Admiral Zheng who visited Malindi in the 13th Century before Vasco da gama. Heck they even put a statue of the guy at the SGR at Msa.

The chinese tapped into their history to find their own path to greatness. Ruto needs to read up on china's attempt at modernization in 1850-1910, he will see the technical skills training will come to nothing without the culture change.

Ruto's history teacher should be arrested and remanded without bail.

What all of you are saying is that Kenya will be great by following other peoples\ countries history? Where is our own? We also have our own dedan kimathi or arap samoei? Our history might be shallow that's why we have to delve into other cultures. The DP is categorical.. once we learn about our history we stop at that and use the remainder of the time not studying other people but we do some technical atudies as well.
Politics is just things to keep the people divided and foolish and put your trust in men and none of them can do nothing for you...

I don't think it's wise to have a 'Ruto can never be wrong' attitude.

It's difficult to study 'our'- who are we? - history, without studying 'their' history. Samoei can't be understood without knowing who the British were.

Again history isn't about the past. It's so much about understanding the present, that if it were possible to press the 'stop' button, we'd all freeze and die.

My fren is very wrong here. It's very important for youth to know, not just when Vasco da gama landed at Kenyan coast, but also why he did in the first place, and the effects of the same. While knowing the same does not prevent the youth from knowing how electricity is generated, it would be very good if the youth can see the connection between the two, and how this is relevant today

Hustler is very wrong on this. Even the great Winston Churchill stated that the farther backward you look, the farther forward you are likely to see.

We cannot all fit in that box called STEM...the human brain's capacity is unfathomable. Those so called humanities play a part in life, they teach/embolden critical thinking skills. As someone stated its not just about vasco arriving in Malindi, but why did vasco make the journey and what impact did that have in yester and today's society.

This speech coming from a VP is really troubling. He should fire that speech writer if he had too much to do b4 reading and analyzing it. Bure!

I don't think these are thoughts of a speechwriter. Ruto told a teachers' meeting the same thing some yes back in an off the cuff speech

Sounds like something he believes in

Are people being taught history or lies, if you get a degree in lies from Vasco da gama, and continue teaching the same lies, paying people to lie, afadhali kujua kupika chapo or something that adds value instead of being hypnotized by Kant, Nietzsche, sijui Hume, and coming to regurgitate it here, afadhali kupika sukuma than being brainwashed.

Question should be who was the first European to discover lake lolwe. (Not Vasco by the way and no book/class teaches that so lets not lie here) And Why was it called Victoria. Its foolish to live without knowing the past....those countries you want to emulate so badly in the west have made history a compulsory subject.

What is important is what made vasco leave Portugal and sail all the way and how did that journey influence life today. Am sure you wouldn't know that
