wondering some supermarkets used to have sugar in their brand names e.g Ukwala, Tuskys, naivas etc. Could anyone be knowing where their processing plants and sugar plantations are?

If you have some "tuskys" sugar in the house, how can you test to ensure it doesn't have mercury?

Hey people, do you remember the powdered milk saga in 1995:

Radioactive powdered milk imported from Ukraine

The milk was never sent back, but rather it disappeared from the customs bonded warehouses and found its way to the consumer!!!

I boycotted KCC milk for 5 years till the time when it was almost collapsing.

...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...

Those of us who drank maziwa ya nyayo might have partaken this. Who wonders why there's an explosion of cancer?

In 1997, the City Council of Nairobi, decided to procure chlorine for its three treatment plants. The tender went to a Kenyan called Kimani Kongo who decided that he knew something more effective at disinfecting water for the capital city…guess what he supplied? Yes, he supplied the city godfathers with enough chalk to disinfect the entire water system. The tenderpreneur went on to buy a house in Muthaiga and a Mercedez Benz. These people are always out to get us.

This is what I asked and no one has answered. Was it added deliberately or was it contaminated somewhere?

This is a familiar script borrowed from a more than 20 years ago circus.
There are business rivals here who are at war. Matiang'i did not just wake up wore his suit and instructed his driver to take him to a godown in eastleigh, No!! It could all be about a deal gone sour and some jilted wheeler dealer decided to do the needful and blow the whistle.

I saw a similar post about Nakumatt closure in the 90s due to alleged stocking of beef with mad cow disease.

I think it was a post by Wahome Thuku on fb. He said it was issues between the then royal family and Nakumatt that led to the allegations and closure

Experts will tell you that what makes raw sugar unfit for human consumption is that the way it is physically handled and transported renders it open to contamination from impurities.

In our case, the raw Brazilian sugar was delivered from the mills in Brazil, Swaziland and Dubai by open vessels that often carry fertiliser.

Like sand, bulk oil and clinker, it is moved by conveyor belts directly into ships’ holds. It is then scooped out and put straight into 50 kilogramme bags or — in the case of the bulk shipments that came straight to Mombasa — poured onto the quayside, loaded into open trucks, dumped on warehouse floors and then bagged straight for the Kenyan market.

A consignment of 2,000 bags of contraband sugar was seized at a warehouse in Matuu on Saturday as the state stepped up war on illicit trade.

Machakos county commissioner said they suspect that the sugar is part of the uncleared goods which were recently seized in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

She directed the concerned security agencies, Kebs, anti-counterfeit agency, and KRA officers to proceed with the crackdown in Mwingi, Kitui county.

Quote:
Detectives also found cooking oil at the store where the contraband sugar was kept. The premises have been cordoned off.

Sakwa said the consignment, belonging to Mt Kenya Distributors Limited, included cooking oil illegally imported from Tanzania.

"We found when some of the bags were being offloaded from a lorry for storage in the said warehouse. Police have taken charge of the two lorries and the godown."

Sakwa said the security team resolved that Kebs officials take samples of the sugar and oil for further tests in Nairobi to ascertain if they are safe for human consumption.

KRA will also conduct investigations ascertain whether duty was paid before the products were allowed into the country.

"It is not possible to know whether the consignment is good or not with the look of necked eye," the county commissioner said.

"It is important that we know where our products come from. Traders should engage in genuine business. People who bring in products into the country should know what products they are buying," she added.

Baba was right that hii ni Korti bandia. When you get awarded an NYS tender they put you in jail and you are denied bail. When you kill millions with mercury contaminated sugar you get bail pap. That is how our justice system is. It's as if the judges and their families are immune to the mercury.
