Who will take it?
And how will fans travel from watching one game in Toronto and another in Cancun?
Very expensive for the fan.

Trump will take it. I'll be shocked if Morocco does.

Morocco should have put in a better bid/pitch than they did. They had alot of advantages:

1. The biggest is the time zone. Most countries are on a closer time zone to Morocco than the America bidders meaning TV revenue from live matches will be high and this is a key factor.

2.Morocco is also a cheaper destination for the fans and travel from one stadium to another is faster and cheaper due to proximity.

3. Voting could favor them if they did their lobbying well as the system was changed to a country-a-vote system from the delegate voting. If they get all the 50 African votes and add another few from middle east and Asia, they are in. Not forgetting retaliatory votes from all the s#it hole countries.

Disadvantages for Morocco:

1. America bidders already have the stadiums ready.

2. Politics & money

3. UAE who will be the 2022 hosts are very near to Morocco and is also a Muslim nation.

4. They put in a weak proposal.

So I feel that politics will win the day and Trump will have his way, after all 3/4 of the matches will be in the US.

BBI will solve it

I've just seen, no surprises there.
But their bid was weak. They should have also partnered with a neigbouring country to host and increased their lobbying power with goodwill from friends of the partnering country.

WTH? These African countries did not vote for #Morroco2026 to host the World Cup: Zimbabwe, Sierra Leone. South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Liberia, Lesotho, Guinea, Botswana, Benin.

Payback is a 'female dog'.

Morocco tried to sabotage SA 2010 WC bid. They also canceled hosting AFCON in 2015 because African countries had Ebola.

Anyway....

Its not the first time Morocco have tried but while one would have loved to see another African host the WC, Moroccans haven't really endeared themselves to the rest of Africa.
Their continued occupation of W. Sahara says it all.

Morocco has always had this complex of not being "African" per se. In 1987 they applied for EU Community membership hoping to join the Union. This was rejected on the basis of geographic location. On this basis they consider themselves part of Europe. On the other hand they see themselves as Arab. Being predominantly of Berber heritage they also associate themselves more with the Arab countries their geographic location notwithstanding. Its observed here @2012, their bid was weak and not well thought out.

Actually the World Cup involving 48 teams should be held in not less than 6 countries.
It is a big waste for one country to put up new stadiums for an event that takes one month only.

But some countries like France,Uk,USA etc has enough infrastructure and can easily hold the expanded games

US with their 50 states can do it but UK & France would be stretched! Some matches will be played in empty stadiums . Imagine two minnows playing in Luton town.

UK can.... any day, any time, easily without pressure with the final at Wembley Stadium.

Really? How come they have not placed a bid for so long?

UK would have no problems hosting a world cup with 50 teams. They already have the stadia in place.

And even a town like Luton would have no trouble drawing crowds. Sio kama hapa Kenya whereby even Harambee stars matches cannot draw 5000 fans.

Luton town has drawn 30,000 fans to their matches, which makes them #62 in England.

48 teams is an overkill! They'll water down this wonderful tournament.

England bid for 2006 & lost to Germany & bid for 2018 & was rigged for Russia. Then FA fell out with thieving Blatter & FIFA!!! FA was among the highest critics of #Blatter!!!

Morocco and many other north African countries share alot with Europe and the middle east due to hundreds of years of relationship, trade and movement within the Mediterranean sea and surrounding region. The Sahara was a big barrier between north Africa and sub Saharan africam. That is why a Tunisian, Egyptian, Moroccan etc would identify himself with Europeans and Arabs across the sea than a Zulu or kikuyu thousands of kilometres away who he never historically interacted with even if they share a continent.

By the way Morocco is only 14km from Europe across the Mediterranean sea. Infact some territories of spain are in Morocco.
