Saw a CNN feature on Mauritius saying that it is expected to post annual growth of over 7% in the coming ten years. Maybe that's what guided the transaction HF 90,000 ABP 3.83; KQ 414,100 ABP 7.92; MTN 23,800 ABP 6.45

Quote:Scangroup inks ads partnership with GoogleMarketing communications firm WPP Scangroup has partnered with Google Africa to roll out a digital advertising solution that will serve its clients across the continent. In a joint statement, the two firms on Thursday said the solution dubbed “Doubleclick suite”, will enable the agency purchase and sell advertisement space in real time, and simplify advertising campaign management from media planning to reporting. The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) - listed firm chief executive Bharat Thakrar said they are confident that the partnership will cement the agency’s top position in the region. “With more than 80 per cent digital media in the US and 60 per cent in the UK sold programmatically in 2017, and a renewed focus by advertisers on media efficiency, brand safety and ‘viewability’, we are confident that this partnership will cement WPP Scangroup’s position as a leading digital media house in the region,” said Mr Thakrar. Google Kenya’s country manager Charles Murito said the partnership will re-define how media is planned and bought in the region. Pesa Nane plans to be shilingi when he grows up.

ScanGroup keeps on bulking up and it has become a regional (not just Kenyan) and possibly and African powerhouse. That said, is it "investable" [returns] based on the current price? That's the question I struggle with... The PER seems expensive but am I missing something? Greedy when others are fearful. Very fearful when others are greedy - to paraphrase Warren Buffett

The problem with ad agencies is that it falls under creative arts hence ascertaining economic value of the entity largely depends on knowledge of the creative capacity of the ad agency noting that massive talent shifts have previously led to collapse of well established companies. This one is not for the faint hearted Yes, if BT can keep the talent (& connections) on-board then it makes sense. Anyway, I did buy some scan back in the day but with other opportunities at lower PEs and which seem less risky, I'll stick with others BUT I will keep an eye on Scan. Greedy when others are fearful. I still have some shares from the teeny allocation during the IPO but my net cost is zero coz I sold some when prices jumped. I like the story of growth of a local firm though a lot of the growth has come from acquisitions using shares rather than internal growth. WPP has been increasing its stake by selling its subsidiaries to Scan. What % does BT still own? Anyway, I will watch it but I have no plans of buying more in the near future. There is no need for real time buying in Kenya and there will not be until e-commerce kicks off properly. For now there is not much competition for programmatic ads so you can just buy through the normal Adsense and DoubleClick and you'll get the results you need
