But true the possibility of Grace's ascent may have precipitated their reaction

It's beginning to look like the army boss acted in haste. The motivation was self preservation. BTW almost everything coming out of Zimbabwe is fake news.
Latest : AU has authorized SADC to handle the negotiations. Bottom line being any govt coming through the coup would not be recognized by both as per AU rules. SADC wants the army to agree they acted illegally. That is why they are vehemently denying there was a coup using the semantic gymnastics @masukuma alluded to.
Now the army has-been forced to the negotiating table from a point of disadvantage. With a tacit threat of military intervention by SADC. It's instructive to note Zuma sent his defence and security ministers and not the foreign minister.

I think that shows the kenyan army to be very professional

The situation in the Gambia was very different. The incumbent president had lost an election, but blatantly refused to leave office. Now the point of departure; the country's military though taking the view that the election outcome ought to be respected, they chose not to intervene per se. ECOWAS threatened to send in their membership troops to get the buffoon out of power a proposal that the local military was in favour of. in fact the military chief offered to escort the ECOWAS troops. In fact when I realized they were after the President RGM i moved forward and defended Mugabe and told them to keep him under warm house arrest because the problem was not RGM but his wife who i realized was enjoying good time in Namibia with one of RGM ministers I quickly called Media and told them what to report as this was not a coup but keeping Mugabe Company in a warmer house. That is why the army still referred him still as "His Excellency" is save and warm!!

Otherwise Uncle Bob still firmly in control.
