Political parties in Kenya

There seems to be two kinds: the ruling party, and mole parties.
The party is never in the name but in the groupings of people and their proximity to power.
Power being the role and narrative supporting the original intentions of forming the nation state Kenya.

I see it differently. There are NO political parties in Kenya. They are just temporary vehicles formed to drive an individual to the seat of power then nobody cares what happens to the vehicle after it gets to the destination. The people who fought for multiparty in Kenya are by far the biggest abusers of the system, followed closely by the generation that came after. While Moi is still a member of KANU till today, Raila has changed parties like diapers, Kibaki I can't even remember the party he won the last elections through although it died a month after. Uhuru, Kanu, TNA, Jubilee.... Parties in Kenya are useless and that's why you and me are members of none. I keep thinking, in Kenya, there are two divides; politicians and pawns. We are the pawns and our job like in the game of chess is to sacrifice in whatever way to get a king through to the throne or deny the other contender the throne. We could be celebrating that Uhuru and Raila are on their final lap but I can assure you that worse is to come because the system engraved in us is the same. We may not like Raila and/or Uhuru right now but these two are like cousins so imagine when we have two strangers or enemies like eg WSR vs Kahippo or Gov. 001 vs anyone... tutaisha. We need to fix this system now. BBI will solve it :)

True actually the offices will or have already fallen silent, waiting to see if Jubilee will maintain their head office, ODM has had Orange house for some years now, for your question Kenya has no serious parties, heck even most Kenyans don't even officially belong to any party, your party is usually automatically assumed to be that with your tribesmen To Each His Own

From encyclopaedia Brittanica: Quote:Political party, a group of persons organized to acquire and exercise political power. Political parties originated in their modern form in Europe and the United States in the 19th century, along with the electoral and parliamentary systems, whose development reflects the evolution of parties. The term party has since come to be applied to all organized groups seeking political power, whether by democratic elections or by revolution.

@2012, I understand you to say that there are no well structured parties in Kenya because our relations are those of politicians versus pawns- meaning oppressor versus oppressed. And by virtue of this, parties are rendered obsolete, or, are best used for election purposes.
So one would wonder, why is it necessary for the politicians to create and use the temporary vehicles?
For how long do these temporary vehicles work? Because parliament, for example relies on party and constituency representation we can say that the minimum life span is five years.
Five years is significant time for change so it may reasonable in some circumstances for parties to change at that rate.
So it's difficult for one to say that: 1. Parties don't exist 2. Parties are useless 3. The high rates of change in party membership experienced in Kenya is irrational or inappropriate.

And probably by our failure to have cogent political histories as a people. By history I mean an organized body of knowledge and not the locus of our identity.

And probably by our failure to have cogent political histories as a people. By history I mean an organized body of knowledge and not the locus of our identity. Our understanding of parties as per our constitution is not limited at all. In fact it is the opposite. We understand parties so well that we are easily able to exploit the glaring loopholes. Parties in Kenya are a means to an end. And the end is power and to control the trillions of shillings. Do you honestly think Uhuru, Ruto, Raila or Kalonzo want to be president so they can be hard working servants of Kenyans? Would they be fighting so hard and making us fight for this position? The whole point why the idea of political parties were created was to create internal democracy, checks and balances. You remember when ANC decided that Mbeki was not up to the task? He had no choice but to exit, in Kenya, Uhuru or Raila or Alfred Mutua would have just formed their own parties and continued. Now, if anyone can just form a party, what's the point? BBI will solve it :)
