Kenyan banks Thursday morning launched a mobile money platform that will allow customers to transfer up to about Sh1 million in a single transaction.

PesaLink is jointly owned and operated by banks through Integrated Payment Services Limited (IPSL), a subsidiary of the Kenya Bankers’ Association (KBA).

“The system will enable users to transact as low as Sh10 and as much as Sh999,999 across the banking system,” said KBA chief executive Mr Habil Olaka.

seems like a 'simplified' rtgs of sorts, but I don't see much especially for the guys who have mobile/internet banking access, and looking at the list of banks that are piloting the system, I don't see solid reasons behind it.

Careful.

This has nothing to do with the KBA Pesalink. This was registered in 2009:

KBA didn't bother checking if the domain was available before they settled on using the name Pesalink.

thanks for the clarification, info on the same then seems a bit hard to come by, they must be relying on the member banks to advice the clients on the workings, but from what I have read about its working it seems very similar to the above pesalink system.

Code:
https://ipsl.co.ke/pesalink/

Seems they (IPSL) have set a base on which individual banks are to build on.
- first point on how to use the pesalink service is listed as Access your bank using your preferred device/ channel

Site very vague on key data like cost of funds transfers.

Live and learn; and don’t forget, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

This pesalink looks like a monumental failure, as expected!

Now its free for 2 months, telling us how useless it is.

Main issue is stupid banks have limited transfer to 70k...when it can handle upto 1m. Self defeating!!

Kenyans are peculiar, they tend to stick to a trusted service provider irrespective of costs.

No, I think the issue here is the bank imposed limits. Pesalink is for people with bank accounts, and thus should be used for transfers over the mpesa 70k limit.

Banks in Kenya are blind.

Actually, majority of mpesa users are unbanked.

Pesalink was the banks' answer to mpesa for the ones with bank accounts. Half the banks didn't sign up, and those that did imposed useless limits rendering it impotent at the go.

Now they've dropped charges, but its the unbanked who are cost conscious...they can't use Pesalink anyways.

Kenyan banks are soooooooooooooo dumb....
