It is good for us to keep alive Kiswahili. The methalis therein are more local and relevant and are educative.

Anyway, first, not all doctors are evil. KMPDU were obviously misled led by Mr. Ouma and his friends that they could achieve what they wanted in that manner. Those doctors who feel differently from his stance should now seek reorganization and throw out the rascals for having captained that formidable organisation into such a disaster.

I want to twist the doctors debate abit and point to the fact that, Kenyans in real sense should be debating on reversing the salaries of government officials and leaders downwards. Otherwise things are bad. Many companies are unable to sustain their wage bill because of the current economic situation. Everybody now want to work for the government because the pay is good. The private sector where am is staring at a lock down. Just a simple question what is the entry point of a fresh graduate. Is it possible for a fresh graduate to start earning 150k and above.I believe it is a high time Kenyans start this debate

Those up there never want to help those still down. The high earners would never have accepted new comers be they doctors or whoever who tried to join them up there especially from down here. The best the rest of down earners can do is to pull them high earners down ruthlessly. The challenge is to find the sweet spot where if toggled the high earners will tumble down.

High moral ground, morality, ethics etc will not cut it here. Crab mentality also has it's advantages.

We are so parochial at times.

Instead of focusing on the larger picture – the integrity and soundness of our Health system we are bogged down with – our guy won - hurray.

If an amicable resolution was at hand, but then some primal urge to show who is boss prevailed instead, then we have a problem.

How comfortable are we with the situation we find ourselves in right now. If some Doctors have been arm-twisted back to hospital, how do we expect them to perform with a feeling of subjugation – or perhaps performance doesn’t matter as long as we can proclaim that our hospitals are open.

Obviously not all Doctors will go back to work, so we still have to plug the shortfall – Cubans still need to come to the rescue.

Someone tell me if the Government will now stop subsidising the training of Doctors in this new scheme of things.

The larger picture is that wanjiku cannot afford to pay doctors 1m each per month. Wanjiko sacrificed and gave doctors a 50% pay rise and backdated the same to 2016 but the spoilt doctors refused. Munataka wanjiko afanye nini???? wanjiko cant be paying one category of employees 1m while the other employees with similar level of training/education are paid 90k. Even you in your house you cant be paying your house girl 100k while paying your shamba boy 9k.

Hapana, speak about parochialism for yourself, brother. You cannot say doctors have a feeling of subjugation as if that is the axiom. No. How do you know that many are not anxious to resume duty and to do their passion up to where their ability reaches?

By the way, do you think it is true that if a doctor is not working in a public hospital then he / she is not working at all?

You just want this thing to drag on and on and on. As if you are just the one to tell Dr. X somewhere within Kenya just the thing he needs and must get or else ..... Give them doctors credit where it is due.

No one has stopped you from paying your doctors at your county 1m. You can go ahead and pay. After all health is devolved. Your money, your choice.

Conflicting info on whether or not resumption of duty has happened since the riot act was read on Tuesday
Quote:
But a spot check at the hospitals revealed that most doctors are not back at work, and the doctors union has said the strike is still on.
<> <> <>
However, a statement posted on the Ministry of Health official website indicated that doctors heeded the government’s order to resume work so that negotiations could resume.
“Striking doctors have heeded the government’s call to resume work after the government stopped further negotiation with their union. A spot check of major county public health facilities reveals that doctors have started streaming back to hospitals across the country to resume duty,”

Then this morning State house statement issued - today Sunday 12th March 2017 – threatening Doctors with the sack !

Doctors: Who said we’ve called off our strike? the struggle continues

Court of Appeal: We are giving the parties a final chance. We shall mention the matter tomorrow at 10am...If not resolved this court will refer the matter to the labor court

Lecturers call off strike, sign pay deal

Uasu secretary general Dr. Constantine Wasonga said that Uasu unity and solidarity of union members was of great value to the process of negotiating with the government saying it is an excellent example to other unions.

Meanwhile KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Ouma Oluga is still changing documents and shifting positions Medics remove private practice clause.

The allegations of x number of doctors serving 10,000 number of Kenyans though often quoted with genuine concern but is very misguided. It doesn't help that doctors themselves repeat it often. It should be x number of medical health workers serving 10,000 Kenyans. That is according to the Kenya Health Sector Strategic Plan JULY 2013-JUNE 2017.

But it is good he crystalises a main issue as "job group".

Anyway, the different levels of health care delivery in the Kenya Essential Package for Health is as follows:

6 Tertiary hospitals

5 Secondary hospitals

4 Primary hospitals

3 Health centres, maternities, nursing homes

2 Dispensaries/clinics

1 Community: Villages/Households/Families/Individuals

Doctors start appearing in that hierarchy at around level 4. The staff at the community health workers level, dispensaries, clinics, health centers do the donkey work within the community. They include enrolled nurses, nurses, clinical officers and such. What they cannot handle is what they refer up the chain. And that is how it should be. There is no point going to say KNH to get diagnosis for Malaria when it can be done at the health center.

So what is ailing the health sectors in Kenya? What can be done? For starters, lumping money at the top of the chain in salaries and what not is absolutely not the way to go.

Man! Even Dr Githinji Gitahi, Group CEO of Amref Health Africa agrees with me. Not all doctors are of the same level level as some of them of KMPDU. Many are at a higher level.

At the just concluded Africa Health Africa International Conference, Dr Gitahi noted that: “a survey by a local research firm found out that only 30 per cent of Kenyans knew of the doctors’ strike two months into the strike.”

These findings draw attention to the fact that most health needs are not met by doctors, but by middle-level heath workers and community health workers.

Hence, investment should go to the myriad mid-level health workers down there, not a few specialists up there! I cannot help but remember a certain graphic I was being fed that we will experience world class health care if only KMPDU CBA was implemented. Sad.

Leo naona you are on a roll 😂😂😂😂
Let's see how today goes.
Meanwhile, negotiations are just that. You try to get the best deal for those you represent. So KMPDU removed the conflict of interest wording (wrong-headed imho), but the MOH and the governors can insist on it and put it back, it's all part of the negotiation...
