Still trying to understand what exactly nakumatt strategy is. Someone enlighten me please.
1. Why would tuskys want to take 51% of Nakumatt. What would they gain apart from 51% of a 40 billion of debt? Surely that's like throwing good money after bad? No other investor is willing to to touch them so why Tuskys?
2. Wouldn't it be easier for the owners of Nakumatt to be declared insolvent and wound up? Why are they intent on dragging this charade on? Nakumatt has lost credibility so it's brand is worthless now. Even if things were good and they made 1 billion profit every year, it will take decades to pay its creditors back!

Surely that brand cannot be worthless

I have just seen an analysis by someone online. What they owe is much much more than the value of their entire inventory at their peak when fully stocked. In short, the 40Bn didn't go to buy stocks, its stashed somewhere.

Why Tuskys ? They couldn't trust anyone else to come on board. Who else would keep quiet once they discover the hidden skeletons ? If the deal goes through, they simply come back with tuskys as their front using money they screwed the banks and suppliers.

@maka I don’t have time for such characters. the clown clearly hasn’t read project safari circular. KQ is no longer on negative equity

@Obiero You're a good stock analyst except when it come to KQ.Being married to a stock can cloud your judgement. As for the negative equity, not even a miracle can get them out of that blackhole that fast. They have a long way to go.

Tuskys purchase of the stake will be through pumping money to pay creditors and suppliers including mall owners and restocking of the branches.

Strategy is to go into administration. That halts them from paying old debts. Then try and restore the business without that burden.

Screw the banks and the suppliers. Banks can claim administration so no need to provide (or cook provisions). Suppliers will write off as cost of doing business.

Accept and move on. Its the Kenyan way...

They are fearing going into oblivion coz all the branches may shut if things continue as they are and the brand erased.
Going into administration is to shield the assets from being attached and sold by the the creditors, give more time to figure out how they can start repaying their debts

I doubt they even care about repaying debts.

Administration+Tuskys stock is actually a joker card I hadn't seen. If the administrator can be bribed to not declare Nakumatt insolvent, they can actually survive.

The Reuters article reads more like a release by nakumatts PR agency, to give credibility to the Company image. Even nakumatts Facebook page seems to be stage managed with happy customers praising the companys customer service and stores. It maybe better if they spent their money paying frustrated creditors instead of wasting it on PR agencies.

Nakumatt should be allowed to die. Then other businesses will take over their niche. No customer will suffer coz Nakumatt is gone. Life has many options.

Tuskys directors are mad… they will sink with Nakumatt if they are not careful

The replacement process has started
Quote:
French retailer Carrefour is tomorrow set to open its third Nairobi store at the Thika Road Mall (TRM), two months after struggling rival Nakumatt evacuated the space.
