Cheaper crude generally means cheaper refined products. Lower pump prices usually means greater volumes sold. There's no guarantee but ceteris paribus more volumes = better profits. Ohana said KK will not chase unprofitable volumes. All subsidiaries, incl low-margin ET, are profitable. KK shut down stations in ET that weren't profitable and/or problematic i.e. dealers with a poor payment history. This freed up cash to pursue profitable lubes & LPG.

30 new stations should be good for (profitable) volumes.

KK is open to mature (new) markets like SA. Perhaps Botswana. Mozambique looks interesting but the "socialist" mindset worries Ohana. Zambia is flush with cash & plans are underway to have 2x stations by 2022.

I am getting uncomfortable with the constant "in-the-news" stuff. Remember how Segman, Naikuni among others used to be in the news all the time?

I still like KK but I prefer the old "silent, deadly and effective" Ohana who competition didn't see coming!

Agreed. Such articles don't add any value and are usually signals that a peak is nearby!

Laughing out loudly Good news is never poison. If Ohana is positive, then Kk is positive. Remember books are still being returned and any better than normal behavior can drive kk to give a scrip dividend of say 50 cents or mid year interim of 20-25 cents.
But first let us read the budget and vote leaders nane name!!!.

Surely such a brainless statement,'Kenol Kobil rose in great strides from having a Sh6.3 billion debt to making a Sh2.4 billion profit margin post tax in 2016.' SMH

Yes, that made me uncomfortable. The positive I see is the "shadow" board member, Charles FM, whose father-in-law is the silent majority shareholder. After the Segman debacle, I don't think they will let anyone run the high-level stuff without oversight.

Price coming down for KK and even Co-op is not my worry, this is a phenomenon and happens every time. This helps those outside to do the buying and who resells just before the Ex-Dvnd rise period to harvest from speculation.(They can wait for dividend or move out before dividend and earn the difference)

For Centum 2018-19 will be a great year.
KK will one day have a scrip dvnd or Bonus of 1-5 or equivalent.

In 2015 AR, this was the comment on contingent liabilities;
Quote:
.30 Contingent liabilities
The Group is a defendant in various legal actions. In the opinion of the directors, after taking appropriate legal advice, the
outcome of such actions will not give rise to any significant loss.
The Company has also provided corporate guarantees in favour of subsidiaries and other entities to a maximum of US$ 12.5
million (2014: US $ 21.9 million).
In addition, at year end, the Company had transit bonds and performance guarantees totalling KShs 1.1 Billion (2014: KShs
831 million).
At every year end, the directors carry out an assessment to ensure that the Company has accounted for all its obligations
(both legal and constructive) in accordance with the requirements of IAS 37 (Provisions, Contingent Liabilities and Contingent
Assets). Based on the facts available at the time, a provision is recognised if it is deemed to be probable that a payment will
be required to be made to settle the obligation.

The impact will therefore depend on whether there was a provision for this award in past periods. In case no provision was made the impact will be a small loss of 26cts per share. (386M/1,500M).
Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

@gatheuzi the issue is not the settlement amount but the lack of discipline by KQ management in prompt payment of determined obligations..
