@Wazuans,

This is the story - I am in the process of buying a car from a certain fellow.

The guy had bought this unit in 2008 October from a company that sold it on tender.

Since then, he never transferred it to hi name even though the transfer form was filled and signed by the selling company; Copy of the logbook also is with the guy.

Now, since he has not transferred to his name and he is now selling to me, I am planning to buy and take to KRA for transfer.

I am not wrong, the transfer will have to be done twice - to him first from the company he bought from - then from him to me.

Considering this duration of having not transferred, what are the fines / charges by KRA to me for this?

Any idea how long this will take?

Is transfer still being done by KRA or NTSA?

Saidia ndugu!

How was he able to insure it? Insurance insists on logbook in your name or a transfer notification from KRA d'oh!

To the best of my knowledge, there'll be only one transfer - to you. I was in similar circumstances in 2012. Bought a mat from a guy who had never transferred it to himself in more or less the same way. He was however in possession of a duly filled and signed transfer form, as well as copy of KRA PIN & National I/d of the guy from whom he had bought it. I simply went with these to KRA and only one transfer was done, directly to me, as though it was me buying directly from the original seller.

My case is unique! My car was sourced from an expatriate leaving Kenya for US. He had got it from another expat who had left without signing either the transfer form or an agreement of sale! The original logbook is available.

you need a copy of the company's registration certificate, and, PIN certificate. The transfer form should bear the company's name and yours too...

@Rankaz13

Thank you so much for your feedback!

You have answered well, were there any fines or just the normal transfer fees?

You will pay late registration fine,that's given.For an upto 2000cc car,it's Kshs 670 per month defaulted.....You will want to ask how it counts.14 days from day of sale agreement/release letter.

@Rankaz,
It's double transfer.No shortcut.

You may get away with it and pay a single transfer if the person who bought the vehicle had not filled his name on the transfer form
As for penalty, am yet to meet a person who has paid a fine for not transferring a vehicle within the stipulated 14 days
Transfer of mv was one of the mandates transferred from KRA to NTSA so in effect NTSA are responsible for transfers though they are still accommodated in Times tower
to be or not to be remains the question
