The President also announced that the government would reclassify double-cabin pick-up trucks as private vehicles. They are now designated as commercial vehicles.

"Regulations must evolve in tandem with social change. The double-cabin pick-up is now less commercial and more of a family utility vehicle.

"Having considered public appeals and consulted appropriately, it is time for government to review the category of this type of vehicle in order to recognise it as private, not a commercial vehicle," Mr Kenyatta said.

about time too...

There were double standards.
imported double-cabs - full duty was paid like private vehicle but once on the road, suddenly its a commercial vehicle.... inspection, ruined with funny looking reflectors drilled to the rear and Commercial insurance.

All cars older than four years to be inspected.

Plan to inspect private cars will require diligence

One such initiative was unveiled last week by the National Transport Safety Authority which plans to subject all vehicles older than four years to an annual mandatory inspection in line with the new Traffic Act’s requirements.
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

Doc, you have/had a matatu and must know commercial inspection and all that appertains to it. I applaud the blanket inspection, of ALL cars, to get the smoky and cancer-causing, ones off the road.

he needed not to publicly announce this...it is very irritating especially when I remember what the authorities have taken me through because of owning a d/cab.

All the countries in Africa south of equator categorises double cabin pick-ups as private cars!!!
...besides, the presence of a safe alone does not signify that there is money inside...
