Irony is that Nakumatt tapped out before Uchumi.

Uchumi, Mumias, etc should be declared bankrupt and go the way of Nakumatt.

At lease for Uchumi, it can be rescued through a plan whereby the local suppliers can own it and use it as an avenue to sell their merchandise. The brand still has value, used to stock a lot of locally produced items and has premises in some strategic locations but the management and staff has been thieving

Yes, but it has to be declared bankrupt, delisted and given over to the creditors so they can restructure it. I do not mean Uchumi should be closed BUT it should be owned and controlled by suppliers and employees.

There's no better way forward than what @vvs suggests. This is a small business with no national importance hence no need for GOK influence/support

Uchumi looses yet another key branch. It's over https://www.businessdail...641028-scvg8d/index.html

Almost there!

Uchumi to complete Sh2.8bn Kasarani land sale in one week

No, I will still not invest in Uchumi shares BUT I hope Uchumi can find a strong partner and provide meaningful competition to Carrefour!
Perhaps some suppliers should take a significant stake, and management role, in Uchumi and use it as a major outlet for their products.

Uchumi should do very fast what Nakumatt did.
Close some branches and remain with just a few to reduce overhead costs.
About 10 branches would be good

With a caveat placed by KAA who will dare touch that Uchumi Langata land?

It's actually a great hazard as per the KAA report. "Threat of missile launch direct along the flight path"

Is there any info on Uchumi, there seems to be unusually high demand for the past 5 days.
