Cost of medicare in Kenya

I don't know if we have ever discussed extensively,if we have someone kindly direct me to that post.
Why is it expensive to get treatment in this country...what can be the solution to this?
Even the supposedly "highly subsidised" govt hospitals have costs that are out of reach for many...

I think its lack of equipment that contributes to this.The few private hospitals that have proper equipment charge an arm and the lower part of the body to access their services.

If all govt hospitals are well equipped,the cost of medical care will come down

I think you are right. I have seen some serious look to this particular part by several county govts. The central govt have also assigned funds to lease equipment on behalf of the county govts.

There is also the issue of unnecessary treatments, the other day a doctor prescribed one test for my wife but when he realized she had insurance there 4 more tests to be done from nowhere and your guess is as good as mine......all turned negative!!!!

That scenario happens all the time especially hapo midro class Aga Khan and Nairobi Hospital.

I had a stomach upset due to mixing various food in some bash and just wanted basic anti-acid or utmost ENO...they did 7 test on my sh*et which all came negative, halafu wakanipatia brufen and pepcid tabs...

Tests cost 9,400 while dawa cost me 165!

The @Bigchick lady at the counter first asked me if I had an insurance card which I innocently said njess...kumbe I was being led to slaughter house.

Be careful at that small Aga Khan near Museum hill road.

The expenditure for OP recentlyfor entertainment is enough to furnish two district hospitals with all the basic machines eg diarsis x ray etc

True, The day in noticed that I changed my medical cover to reimbursement.I pay everything in cash and later on seek reimbursement from my insurance.The invoices for my hospital bills have greatly reduced
