Anybody received Safaricom via snail mail aka cheque?

I spoke to them yesterday and the story is that they have only just started sending out snail mail cheques and the process goes on until November..

Out of curiosity why would one still choose snail mail when there are other faster options available to be paid?

Other faster options come at a cost.
To some people they are not in such a hurry to receive the dividends.

Or unexplained choice by sender: mine supposedly defaulted back to snail mail because M-Pesa failed at the time for an unknown reason.

Mine is a basic problem that i gave up on sorting out. A joint account of 2 people but names are transposed the way CDSC Account and bank account were opened. So EFT payments are returned by the bank (names differ) Sad but cheques they accept) smile - you walk in & just deposit/no questions asked based on the comfort that they are clearly dividend payment. I accepted my situation and moved on!!!!

Safaricom round one snail mail inside//Monday!!!

Safaricom dividend wrapped up unless there is someone who hasn't received both normal and special dividend.
kcb ongoing

Same 5% as individuals .

Please note that for foreign individual investors like us, we are charged higher, a withholding tax of 10% of dividend.
Call it tithe on dividends .

This is not peculiar to Nairobi bourse. In general non resident foreign investors everyway always pay higher withholding tax on dividend income.

1. A Kenyan Company with less than 12.5% shareholding - WHT at 5%;

2. A Kenyan company with 12.5% or more shareholding - WHT at 0%

3. Foreign Companies - WHT at 10%

Centum is a core holding for me. Longhorn is Tier 2 for the dividend yield and eventually capital gains when a sale/takeover takes place at a premium. I believe JM will deliver Applause

if Companies like KCB cannot hold their AGMs, does it mean no dividends will be paid until this COVID 19 runs its course whenever that will be?

Firms can announce and pay one or two INTERIM dividends which can replace final dividends. Same difference.

AGMs have to be held but the CMA could/should allow online AGMs i.e. live streaming with Q&As via phone lines or other means e.g. conferencing.

It's not insurmountable and going forward it could become permanent for those who cannot physically attend AGMs.
