American sports teams have a habit of demanding that the City or state government build a stadium for the team or else they will leave town. As soon as it shows slight signs of obsolescence, they abandon it and demand a new one from the City

This is the formerly glamorous Detroit silverdome

Alba dont forget the state is now poor they cant afford the money to maintain the stadium. Most moneyed detroiters moved in search of greener pastures in other states after 08 so there's really no income.

How sad. Si they give it to us, it's way better than anything we have here. Or they just sell it at a throw away price to a church minister to transform it the way Joel Osteen transformed the dead Compact Centre below:

BBI will solve it

That is True.
But you also have to blame City planners. Often they are so desperate to please team owners that they will build a stadium for the team without any guarantees that the team will stay.

And even if the team leaves, they usually have years to plan for contingencies. There are several events that can be held at this stadium to pay for its maintenance. It could host college football matches, gospel revivals, concerts, soccer matches, Ice hockey matches, wrestle-mania events etc etc etc

The habit of teams demanding new stadia has recently caused some city dwellers to vote down plans to build a new stadium. Case in point : Seattle. When the Sonics wanted a new arena, referendum voters refused. So the Sonics left and moved to Oklahoma.
