See how much govt spends on former presidents & 1st ladies

This is pure madness in a country that is failing to fight crime, poverty, terrorism or create jobs for hundreds of unemployed youth. But its Kenya and nothing shocks me anymore

First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has been allocated Sh114 million, while the Deputy President’s wife Rachel Ruto has been allocated Sh72 million.

The two retired Presidents will cost the taxpayer Sh149 million. Moi’s total package – his benefits, plus payment to staff, maintenance of vehicles, foreign and domestic travel, plus other perks – is Sh66.9 million. While the total package for Kibaki is Sh82.9 million. The Standard can reveal that under Kibaki’s budget, there’s a budget item for “insurance costs” of Sh13.1 million, but under Moi’s budget, that line is missing.

And apparently the total amount of money allocated to fight terrorism is Ksh 28 million.

Kweli Kenya ni country ya upuzi. One cant help but laugh at our twisted priorities Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly Laughing out loudly

Does parliament have a say in approving this ? If so then the opposition is really letting Kenyans down. But even more importantly, Kenyans are letting themselves down by accepting such madness whereby lavishing former presidents and 1st ladies is of a higher priority than the safety of the public.

It pains to see the wealthy being pampered with taxpayers money. It brings to mind the proverb of the Rich man and Lazarus.

Yaani this is one thing that bothers me. Akina Moi, Kibaki, Ruto and the Kenyatta family became wealthy by looting public resources that could have been used to develop the country back then. Now they are being pampered with money that could be better used to provide security and combat terrorism. Or even just dig boreholes.

Next time a person gets carjacked or robbed at gunpoint, or next time an explosion happens remember that the money that could have been used to prevent this is instead going to Kenya's royal families.

And consider that the amounts stated above do not even include the cost maintaining Kibaki's house in Mweiga. The costs of maintaining such a colossal home must be astronomical.

Also consider the fact that most of this is done with borrowed money so true cost is even higher because the government borrows at high interest rates and has to repay loans/bonds na vinginevyo.

One would have thought that insecurity and terrorism would have become a matter of national emergency. I guess not.

Kweli Kenya ni nchi ya maajabu. Turkanas starve every year. Nairobians get carjacked on a daily basis. Tourism is as good as dead in Mombasa. So the youth are jobless and increasingly restless. 60% of urbanites live in slums with no dignity. But yet our priorities are to pamper the already wealthy royal families.

And yet at election these very same Kenyans become flock to rallies to cheer these very same politicians.

Tucheke tu

What else can we do ?
