A heartbroken family have been ordered to demolish their £500,000 dream home after bungling builders made it 6ft too high and 4ft too wide. Car sales manager Andy Murray, 51, paid £164,000 for a building plot and a further £300,000 constructing the four-bedroom property. He left the project in the hands of his architects and builders but claims they failed to follow the plans. After the home was built and fitted with a £27,000 kitchen and four bathrooms costing £25,000, the council stepped in and ordered it to be demolished. Andy and his wife Frances, 53, will be charged a further £11,500 for demolition, due to take place next week, and will have to sell his current home, valued at £350,000, to cover the debts.


The law was broken, period. Everybody can sympathise but what has to be done just has to be done.
