Kenya: Artivists versus the state

The irony is that Al Jazeera .is based in a country you can least describe as democratic. and financed by groups you can least describe as civil.talk of not seeing the log in your eye but a spec in another person's eye

Africa is becoming more active on the global arena and Kenya is considered an important player in Africa.

The past two decades we have seen improvements in communication technologies that have shifted our relationship with information and that might have implications not only in Kenyan politics but world politics.

To govern without excessive use of force while pursuing(or offering the illusion of pursuing) democratic ideals would require shared perceptions,ideas,culture and understanding in order to foster unity of purpose and action.Mass media and the education system were largely tasked with that.

The internet offers interactivity i.e. two-way flow of information unlike mass media which is one-way.It also offers fast access to vast caches of information from a variety of sources with different influences.This threatens the unity by challenging what it is based on.

Art in its various forms appeals to man but also has the capability to embody ideals and emotions into symbols.Fashion,music,art e.t.c. are important and influential aspects of both culture and politics.A global issue.
