Apparently,this chemical compound is used as a maize preservative. Cases of poisoning are common in developing countries. Amounts as much as 0.5 grammes can prove fatal as the compound damages the major body organs eg kidneys liver and the heart. It is a quick acting poison. After consumption of the contaminated meal,the victim may feel restless,anxious,vomit blood,feel dizzy,have an irregular heart beat,yellow eyes and low blood pressure. The most sure sign is the smell of phosphine gas around the victim. All those who suspect themselves to have ingested the contaminated maize should seek medical check up as soon as possible
