Sgt Ogidi Obuon's statement to police implicates both Jaramogi and Raila in it. Jaramogi was a willing financier who had thought of a coup as a fix to the Moi regime before the junior soldiers visited him for help. Raila is at the heart of the coup being part of the council-the committee in charge of planning the coup. He assures soldiers of assisstance from neoighbouring countries and organises meetings and venues for the plotters. SOURCE:Saturday Nation

Crush your Enemy Totally
All great leaders since
Moses have known that a
feared enemy must be
crushed completely.
(Sometimes they have
learned this the hard way.)
If one ember is left alight,
no matter how dimly it
smolders, a fire will
eventually break out. More
is lost through stopping
halfway than through total
annihilation: The enemy will
recover, and will seek
revenge. Crush him, not
only in body but in spirit.

Moi's blunder.
TULIA.........UFUNZWE!

Was it a miscalculation on the part of Moi by shielding Raila from the gallows despite there being a strong case for his hanging? The more I read about the coup, the more puzzled I get about Moi. Could it be he had deep respect for Jaramogi? Could it be he viewed the Odingas as possible future allies(which they became in the next decade)? Or was it a case of avoiding to touch one community's royal family?

Wapi?
Shame on you

I imagine it could be a reason. Imagine a life sentence or hanging forthe Luo political supremos. Would it have led to more discontentment among them? But the other reason could be the cliche 'Kenya ina wenyewe'. The small fish paid the price for the big fish(no pun)

The idea was shared equally between the Luo and the Kikuyu supremos......it's the leadership of the coup that was a problem.....very strong in spirit but somehow clueless heads.

The Kikuyus tried to replace Mo1 b4 the old man died but ikakataa..the Luo tried to take by force. Hio pia ikakataa...@Lolest on your comment above, its possible there was some outside intervention too.
