The more I read about this guy - the more I like him.

its strange that us africans don't talk about him or even know him yet we know people like Charles Tailor.

here is a documentary about him...

He inspired many -
-food sufficiency in 4 years
-banned the use of expensive cars for government officials and forced the to use the cheapest car around.
-the citizens built a railway with their own hands
-he promoted the one thing i believe will determine our dignity as a people i.e. FOR US BY US.
- he outlawed the display of his portrait.
- he refused to have air conditioning since majority of the population did not have it.
- he owned one car, 4 motorbikes and a guitar (which he used to compose the national anthem)

while he made mistakes - it was undeniable that he had his country's and africa's interest at heart. he spoke his mind in the presence of leaders of other countries and perhaps died for it. I tip my virtual hat to this great leader and a man who no one can accuse of not having the benefit of his people in his heart - I tip my hat to a true son of Africa.

You forgot one very important thing, and I quote: "Under his government, female genital mutilation, polygamy, forced marriages, and other practices that undermine the dignity of women were discouraged and banned."

Need I say any more?
Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

it is a travesty that we Africans don't know about such a person. I only got to know about him a couple of weeks back. I was like... How would such knowledge have escaped me all this time.

Blame it on human nature. Bad news spreads like a bushfire.
