Guys I have just come from the KNUT NEC meeting. Been at it since 5.20am. Its a house divided. Some members want more dialogue others want to strike and divisions are on party lines CORD and Jubilee. They are taking a vote and I have been asked to leave as the vote is secret but I think wale wa mgomo will carry the day...

I see a lot of siasa in this strike. It has nothing to do with the teachers. It has everything to do with derailing the free laptops project.

Expect political statements to be made soon.

Political parties (read politicians)have been known to hijack lobby interests. This will not be an exception. As long as the strike takes place, the other party would have a perfect opportunity to poke holes into the laptops project. Watch this space.

I don't think people will poke holes in the laptops project just coz of the strike.....it remains BOLLOCKS whether we have a strike or not, me thinks they just insist on it coz it's the money the powers that be can get their to hands on fastest, otherwise it aint a priority to insist on it and roll it it out, the sooner they realize this the better!!!!

I really would have agreed with you on this one. But my biggest problem is that this KNUT or whatever they call themselves these days is so much for the money that they do not think about the quality of education the same teachers are giving the kids. You say the kids and parents suffer? They've been suffering ever since the teachers decided "hata watoto wakianguka, hawataanguka kwa compound ya mwalimu". Majority of the kids in public schools cant even read when in class 6-7. some are going to write exams and they do not even know how to read english... and the teachers are always more than happy to take to the streets for more pay! They even fought the "performance contracts"! The pay should be tied to the performance of the schools and they should stop giving blanket increaments. Everyone should be rewarded based on appraisal... just like all of us are done..... Me things.

And yes, how can we pressure the government to stop wasting our money on those laptops? Even if it was a promise, Uhuruto should just admit it was a silly campaign line and we will all be ok with it... in any case, we are giving laptops to kids who dont even have books or classrooms to use. I am so against it given that we do not even have money to maintain the bloody toys and it is a recurring expenditure. Can we afford it? I agree with Mcrg..... It's bollocks! Complete bollocks!! We need to take it to the streets... i bet that's the government language....
