National treasury and NSSF's stake in NBK will be converted into KCB shares through a share swap bringing their combined stake to 30%. Wanjikus will also be alloted KCB shares.
Time is money, so money is time. Money saved is time gained in reverse! Money stores your life’s energy. You expend your energy, get paid money, and store that money for a future purchase made in a currency.

This is big news

NBK has too many skeletons. Not a good acquisition for KCB.

Cheap deposits in terms of KRA, TSC money.
Those skeletons will be dealt with ruthlessly.
Some time back Equity bank and Stanbic were also interested in acquiring NBK

KCB will now own 70% of NBK and 9% of KQ.. ya dunia ni mengi

KCB shareholders should be alarmed when the bank starts buying junk. NBK and KQ are just bad investments.

Extremely prudent move by KCB. Anyone read the paragraph starting with "buried in the fine print....gava will be forced to close all other accounts in other banks ...and open a mother of all gava account at KCB"

I strongly doubt if those new ventures will generate any positive returns. The advisers wants to make KCB a junk like the other two. Be careful.

Unless they want to benefit from government funds which are channelled here I also don't see it as a venture that can cause a massive advantage

Closing all other accounts in other bank accounts and open a mother gava account at KCB not wise/fair and will most likely be rejected.
I don't see the proposal seeing the light of the day

People should beware of M&A transactions... They are complex on paper, they cost tonnes of money in terms of advisory fees yet more often than not destroy value for the shareholders.

Good example is CFC Stanbic Reverse Merger. Stanbic is still armotizing goodwill paid to Njonjo and Co while their balance sheet grossly underperforms smaller banks like NIC.

Its too early to judge the consequences of the merger.Lets wait for the process to be completed and then we will see its impact whether positive or negative.

I too echo your sentiments @sparkly. Most likely, kcb will have to incur significant restructuring cost as a result of buying bad will( poor organisation cultures and traits that can not be inherited from pawns of "Munrie") post M&A. Fench sitting here too, till dust settles.

What is it with Kcb and collapsing banks? First Imperial then Chase...now Nbk plus talk of Consolidated and Development banks. Seems to me there is more than meets the eye here.
The main purpose of the stock market is to make fools of as many people as possible.

KCB is a well sought out Blue Chip. why they want to soil their good reputation by buying monkeys beats me.

@sparky,all is not lost.I suspect the idea is from the national treasury which actually has a seat in kcb board. The motive could be to use kcb strength to save nbk and consolidated bank.Remember last year they had the idea to merge nbk and consolidated but they went quite.I feel kcb will gain in the long run as it will attract good deposits and large transactions in govt agencies and most ministries.

Going by this news acquisition of NBK by KCB is not going anywhere.
NSSF has scuttled the plans

The initial plan is for KCB to buy 70% owned by NSSF and treasury. In the final phase the remaining 30% of shares held by the public will also be bought under similar terms. Details are scanty at this point so we may have to wait for a detailed IM.
