Apparently,in case of divorce,you can only claim your spouse's property if you prove that you actually contributed (financially) towards its acquisition.

A very bad law in my opinion....

Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Maybe this serves to discourage divorce. Otherwise who files receipts for a pair of bedsheets they bought?

Lord, thank you!

@Euge&Mukiha

I also think is a bad law.

Some deals are like glass. Sometimes it's better to leave them broken than try to hurt yourself putting it back together.

Mukiha,

How is it bad? It sounds like an equivalent of pre-nap.

That has been the stand in court for a long time. They are only making it absolutely clear. What if someone marries you so that they can walk away tomorrow with half your money without making any contribution. Whatever you add to your existing wealth after marriage is shared when you divorce.

The proposed law has some good clauses.

1. Certificates will be issued for customary marriages and therefore saving people who have not held church weddings hassles in proofing that they are married to whoever. Imagine looking for your clansman to come and testify that he was a witness at your ceremony and the two of you are married. What happens when you reside outside the country?

2.That you can agree with your wife to be that you are polygamous by nature before settling down. If she is acceptable to this,then the issue of bigamy does not arise.

This bill should have been passed like yesterday. I wonder how people have been living. I am waiting for this bill to passed before I marry.

This law is the best. Why would a person want,what you did work for.

If you are working as a team,after marriage its only right its shared.

...how about the statement in the vow which says something like 'I give you everything that I own in this world'?......

@Mukiha,

The vows is meant for the one at heart,the law is an ass and therefore meant for asses.

The law is fantastic in as far as it recognises polygamy. Some of us (in not all) are products of polygamy. The church has tried criminalising polygamy yet the idea of one man one wife was a British notion and not biblical. No wonder men are marying in church and keep girlfriends on the side.

Will the law apply restropectively?
