Is it possible to turn a leasehold into a freehold? If it is, what is the process and costs?
Thank you

Yes, possible but at a fee depending on the value of the unimproved land and unexpired term. Visit Lands Department, Ardhi House for further direction.

Ceinz-thanks. So as an example, if its a Ksh1m plot based on a lease with effect from 2011, what would be the rough cost?

I don't think you can change a leasehold to free hold.

I am not an expert on this. Just my 2 cents

Could be 200-300k Sorry cant come up with exact figure, but essentially you will be buying the government's interest in that plot. There may also be restrictions on some types of property, so as I said earlier pay the lands guys a visit.

It is not possible to upgrade the interest you hold in that land.

@Marty,@Vj,where are you,the authority on land matters because I doubt it has ever been and will ever be possible but the lease can be renewed.
