Copper vs Platinum vs Iridium Spark Plugs

My mechanic just told me today not to obsess about all the hype around platinum and iridium plugs. Not worth it, in his opinion. Stick with standard copper plugs and change 'em on time. Nothing beats them for conductivity and in any case the other options are grossly overpriced. And why do you want your plugs to last your lifetime anyway? Seppuku,

I opt for platinum because changing spark plugs in my car is no easy and takes a lot of time. I wouldnt want to be doing that every 5k kilometres.

If you think of time wasted during change of spark plugs and put a cost to it, copper may not be as preferred as you may think.
