I especially like the photo exhibition idea. I think it needs to be expanded so that it tells a more complete story of a president's legacy. Something akin to the Presidential Libraries they set up in the US. Kenyans may be famous for many things, but a long memory is not one of them. If the next president turns out to be a tyrant we might simply grow accustomed to it and forget the immense democratic space we once enjoyed. But if we can walk into an exhibition center and see the standard that the former president set, we'll easily detect that we're being taken for a ride. I also think that for a president, knowing that your performance will so glaringly be compared against your predecessor's is probably a great incentive to want to deliver.

On another note, I agree with Obbo in his assessment. Kibaki may have screwed up many things, but his presidency has been a remarkable improvement from past presidencies. And that's how progress is achieved - through gradual improvement that accumulates over time into something so distinctly different from the original that it looks and feels like a dream. It's how we do it even in our own lives. Mr. Next President, kazi kwako. Up the game one more time.
