It just hit me that Barclays bank made more profit after tax than the insurance industry. This means that banks are money making machines in the foreseeable future with their rapid expansion into eastern africa...minus barclays and stanchart. I have therefore decided to invest mainly in two sectors that show most potential i.e manufacturing and banking. Which banks do you think are fairly priced and have huge growth potential?....your contributions will be highly appreciated.

R u impplying that th tax rate 4 insurance co.s is higher than that of banks??

Again,what is fairly priced?What is your benchmark? I'm weary of banks because they offer the same product with very little differentiation on how they implement it.Because of that they all have huge potential for growth and huge potential for loss IMO.

Banks are always making money and growing their asset base...have a look at equity bank for instance,it has made several billionaires to date....nic had a rights issue at 21bob...today at ksh 46 is more than 100% capital gains...KCB has had an insane rally and gives generous dividends which are sustainable...diamond trust and cfc stanbic are growing rapidly...co-op and nbk no comments....but i know nbk will return to profiability very soon...all this banks are expanding outside kenya so the potential to grow earnings is huge....i just dont want to miss out on the next Equity Bank

..actually..they mean it's more profitable running a bank in kenya than an insurance company.

..all cash must pass through your bank..salary etc..but for anything to go thro insurance firm..it's a choice... I'm 36..only insurance cover i have is NHIF.. i run several enterprises..and starting up more..all require mandatory bank account.. meaning all cah i'll ever handle ..has to go through banks..including the MPesa bank now..

..insurance? Pthuuu!! mahustlers tu kama sis wengine...plus their cash..is in the freeking banks. smile

@S.Mutaga III, to a stock investor, valuation metrics (P/B, P/E, CAGR, ETC) is what matters most. not the absolute earnings & assets figures. That’s the reason insurance stocks will make money for investors. In point of fact, valuation metrics indicate that most insurance counters are in the BUY zone
