How could the MPC pass without it being discussed here? Two, how can this "wikileaks" from IRA FY2013 be 3 days old and we don't have it here? Ama ni kujipanga siku hizi? Sad

Kenya ranked high in insurance uptake

•A. M. Best, a global rating firm specialising in insurance, says in a report dated March 2014 that Kenya, Ghana and Nigeria have witnessed rising take-up of insurance services in the face of rampant poverty.

•A.M. Best report notes that in terms of insurance penetration, Kenya and Morocco with 3.2 and 2.9 per cent levels of the gross domestic product, respectively, are comparable to some developed markets in Europe as well as Brazil and China.

Yep. Caution due to volatility. Jan-Feb was just a flash. I expect it to scale up towards June - Oct. If eurobond will be floated by then with a good subscription, the better to steady MV NSE20.

Asante @Cde, you are clearly the one who follows this report closest; and that's a good thing for us all.

Scratch that - the combined ratio for Reinsurers now adverse due to +46% claims incurred and +70% commissions payable. Did a regulatory holiday expire? Not good for KenyaRe I'd say...

Also, looking at the life insurer benefit payments. What happened last year? +151%. General insurance rather flat. This is just Q1 though. Let's see.

Kenya Re's rise in claims can easily be attributed to last year in conjunction with APA & others. Nothing new there, a one-off*

Good query. Commissions to where? New business?

We'll see.

Data from the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) shows the companies made a total underwriting loss of Sh480.2 million in the period, meaning that they paid out more in claims and expenses than premiums collected.
