There is a thread on this forum detailing what banks pay and it was unanimous that banks pay "bankers" between 50-60K per month. If bankers are earning 60k and the doctors who are currently on strike earn 140k, who are these wazuans earning 400k+? Or does this mean that wazua is a forum for highly paid ceos earning 400k+ per month?

As an experienced wazuan you should know by now that these threads for "how much do you earn" are always full of silly comments about how sijui 1 million per month ni pesa ya bachelor. Ignore na ujipange na chako!

In my case I earn 220k net and wifey 150k net to give us a total of 370k net. And we have own house that we've cleared loans and mortgage. And 2 loan-free cars (SUV + saloon).

Nope. We became one when we exchanged marriage vows. My money is her money and her money is my money. #mapenziMotomoto

@ associate, let me answer you.

Graduate trainees or clerks as they are known in some of these banks form the bulk of the unionisable staff in the industry. Their union BIFU has been pushing very aggresively to get better terms every year. The latest CBA (collective bargaining agreement) was signed last month and it left gross salary at a minimum of around Kes.58,000.

Now the good news is that some banks actually pay higher that this minimum wage.

The bad news is that a good number of the top banks have discovered a loophole that ensures you are not unionisable. Some banks e.g. Equity bank, will simply not allow you to join a union. Some banks will hire you as a management trainee at a lower salary, while others will engage you on contract terms.

Back to your question, below is my list of best employers in the industry for an entry job.

1. National bank
2. Co-op Bank
3. KCB

Kindly allow me to add something.

Majority of the tellers at Equity are not graduates and in all fairness, the salary of Kes.35K they get is more that generous. Actually, most of them are fiercely loyal since they do not have any delusion of getting a better deal elsewhere.

Roysambu and Thindigwa rents are 25-30k for a 2brm. So you need to make about 75k net to live there assuming one pays 1/3 of their pay as rent.

My monthly salary is about USD 7,000, wife is KES 150,000; all these gross. Two kids, elder one attending baby class. Got loans to pay, about KES 250,000. Net income from business venture KES 240,000(took a loan for this venture). Food and shopping take about 50k,rent 40k. My wife and I still in school-masters. Still feel that I am constrained since I can barely save 100k every month. My comfortable salary would be KES 1M.

Well, this is the reality. And my life style is a simple one. Let me break down my family expenses. School fees for one year is around 1.5m this translates to around 125k a month. Rent, shopping, food and house help is around 100k, folks in shagz will take another 20k. Car fuel(2cars) is about 50k. Car miscellaneous like insurance roughly 30k. Family entertainment and eat outs will take about 30k. Harambees and contributions will take another 20k. Credit card repayments about 100k. What messed me up was managing credit cards. Net income from salaries for us is about 600k. Do the math... From my perspective what is enough is relative and your class plays a big part in defining your "comfortable salary". By the way my first born is 5 years and the little one 2 years. I am 31 years old and I project expenditure to go up very soon as time advances-much to do with kids education and probably I will need a bigger house.

Everything adds up except the school fees ya 1.5M (Outlier) Pesa ya Masters iko apa? If yes then i dont see an issue . You truly live a simple life because you live in a 40k rent. Iyo fee inakumaliza, there is a "class issue apa" when it comes to fee. I think it is easier to control that fee now than later when the kids are all grown up.

To date i still wonder how my dad a primary school teacher, educated the 4 of us in academies, has his own house na we ate chicken when on holiday. How did that Ninja hack? Damn plus he always drank daily na ni beers si busaa. You barely hack this in Nairobi.
