Would the world be a better place without advertising?

Impossible to contemplate.

A job CV is a form of advertisement.

Heck, even Koinange Street would be impossible to imagine without the "merchants" advertising the goods.

I meant media advertising - billboards,tv,radio,internet... I doubt in the past 'merchants' advertised their goods in public.

There would probably be one Government radio and TV station per country which would be busy airing such issues as prevention of soil erosion, planting of trees etc.
Companies such as scangroup, alliance media and so many others would cease to exist.
And before I go ahead why have you thought of this in the first place?

You could not get an opportunity to ask such a question as this forum would not exist. Internet is funded by adverts. Without them its would be very expensive to maintain and content would be only from military and academic institutions with little or no individual contribution.
Keep it simple

Well; have you heard of the concept known as "listener-supported radio"? That's how stations like Nairobi's Radio-3:16 are financed.

They provide excellent material for their target audience and then invite listeners to donate to help keep them on air. In return, the listener is guaranteed high quality uninterrupted transmission...without advertising
Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Criticism of Advertising Some places have survived government controlled radio and tv without advertising. Its something I always think about,do the benefits of advertising exceed the damage it causes?
